I was running down the sidewalk a dog ran out of its driveway to chase after me. It wasn't a big dog, but it wasn't small either. It was normal dog size I guess.
I thought I would do the smart thing so I stopped and stood up real still to see if I could spook it. It stopped, but it was on top of the snowbank about 8 feet away just staring at me. It wasn't growling but the hair was standing up on it's back and it's tail wasn't wagging, so I thought maybe it wasn't friendly.
When I tried to turn to leave or took a step backward it would take a step toward me. I figured I had better not turn my back on it and I was just kind of standing there for a bit waiting for it to either attack or leave.
The owner was in her driveway and she was yelling like "he's friendly" but it didn't seem friendly and she looked like a sketchy bum so I didn't really know if I could trust her. She tried calling the dog but it wouldn't come so eventually I yelled at her like "come get this dog!!!"
She went back in her house and I heard her yell to someone, "Some guy is out here scared of the dog! One of you come to get it!" It made me mad cause she made it out like I was in the wrong but obviously she was in the wrong for not controlling her dumb dog.
Anyway her adult daughter and her boyfriend come out and they call the dog but it didn't come. Then all three of them just start yelling at each other like "I told you I didn't want dog!" "You let it out of the house! "It's running around out here gonna get run over!" (what a premonition...)
I was still in this dog standoff so I interrupted to tell them to come get this dog. Then the dude starts coming over to grab it I guess. I don't really know what he had planned cause the dog didn't have a collar he could hook a leash onto. As soon as he got close the dog bolts into the road and gets run over by an old beater van.
The dog didn't die though. It climbed out from under the van and started zoomin around the block in every direction. The family all start freaking out and yelling at each other and they also start running all over trying to capture it.
The dog had lost interest in me now because he was preoccupied with having been run over, so I took it as an opportunity to split and started running away as fast as I could.
The guy that was driving the van looked like a sketchy old bum and I guess he had the same idea cause he split like two seconds later and zoomed away so that makes it a dog hit and run.
It just goes to show what sort of dumb stuff can happen when a bunch of dumb people and animals get together. I'm probably never gonna run on that road again though.
