I'm sure there are no official records kept for something like this (let me know if there are) but I thought it might be fun to see if we can establish... is Kevin Seaward the fast teacher in the world over the marathon?
Today, he ran 2:10:10 in the Seville marathon which is a new Northen Ireland record. Amazing achievement. For me, what makes it even better, is that he's a practicing full time teacher in the UK. In fact he's an assistant head teacher.

Having recently moved into this profession myself I have so much respect for someone being able to train to compete at this level while managing the demands of a full time teaching job. I won't go on about how tiring and demanding it is but... it is!!
I can't imagine there are many teachers around the world right now who are running times like this in the marathon? It would be interesting to see if there ever have been? Perhaps in the 70's/80's/90's before professional athletes existed like they do today, but I doubt it...
Of course, this thread might split of into conversations about marathon runners with full time jobs (Yuki Kawauchi for example). I cannot comment on the demands of anyone's job, but I'd suggest there are some careers out there that apart from taking up your time and meaning you can't train at perhaps your ideal time or location, the actual day to day tasks are not as prohibiting or energy sapping to your running as they are for teachers and the like... so lets not talk about anyone working part time or doing a job just so they can fund their athletic ambitions. I'm talking 'proper' careers that are challenging and demanding, even before you've mapped out your months training plan...
