I don't think SB should have been fired, but jeez: if you're going to live by "woke" cancel culture be prepared to die by it too.

a man was asked by his employer to reign in his online behaviour.
he ignored the request.
they fired him.
...seems fair enough to me.
I just read the thread:
Reid's " but I will follow up" quote seems pretty interesting given what happened to SB a few days later.
what you're missing is that he didn't ignore the request. he complied with it and was fired. as the CBC article above says, he was asked not to comment on Trackie before the "total silence" request from the AD, then was fired even in his silence.

Immediately preceding the "prison camp" analogy, SB made another comparison relating to spousal abuse.:

...While the role of student athletes in covering for DST in the recruiting process would be well down the list-- because they were themselves were victims-- it is not insignificant. Like the abused spouse who hides her partner's abuse against the kids, the behaviour of Guelph athletes who either said nothing or who actively recruited high schoolers with the knowledge that they too might end up being abused is understandable in many ways, it still does play a role in continuing the abusive situation. To the extent that they too received a good (winning) they are also culpable.

Another somewhat dramatic way of looking at it is this: Everyone is a prison camp is a victim, but there are also collaborators.
He's not wrong.
I understand from a source close to Steve that he did comply with the request to stop posting on the subject but then was fired anyway.
I've read the FB thread in question and don't see what the issue is. Yes opinions were expressed and perhaps a few feelings were hurt. Welcome to life.
When your employer warns you about your behavior and you continue to obstruct the warning(s) laid forward, that equates to firing in MANY occupations. Because of this quoted statement no one should really be "surprised" he got fired. Based on Queens statement, perhaps he's lucky he didnt get fired sooner for his "objectionable commentary." Here's a good lesson why some should just stay off social media or keep it real low key when they have a certain occupation or they may risk losing it.
Yep. Welcome to life. Where acting like a jerk can get you fired.
Please direct me to the facebook thread where this took place. thank you

I think many of the messages have been deleted for various reasons because that CBC article mentioned there were 27 posts, and it definitely had over 50 posts before.
SB's comments are still there......Robyn Mildren is the person you want to look for on FB, the whole thread is wide open.
BTW, for those who have an axe to grind against SB because he hurt your feelings and like to cherry pick stuff from the FB exchange, here's his opening comment in the thread. Please point out what was offensive in it. More interesting, though, are the immediate and harsh replies from the former grifoons. Looks like they found their boogey man to replace their cherished predator coach.
Steve Boyd: Thanks, Robyn Mildren, for having the courage to offer your thoughts on these matters. You mention the competitive success of the Guelph XC teams. Given that, had they known what Dave had done in 06, Guelph admin would have fired him, do you think that those titles should now be vacated? How many of you would have gone to Guelph had Dave been fired in 06? How many would have gone if you'd simply known that he had been suspended for an inappropriate relationship with a female athlete in 06? I'm not trying to put you on the spot, it's just that you're the first Guelph alum I know who's offer more than a line or two of reflection. Given Dave victimization of Megan Brown, and the massive benefits Guelph enjoyed as a result of the years of coaching he stole through his lies, does either of them deserve to keep this legacy of competitive success?
Exactly.
The public comments by Guelph athletes so far have been utterly self-serving. Many people claim they witnessed others being abused, yet not a single person has reflected on their community's collective failure to put a stop to this abusive culture.
When this point is raised, they fire back that there was no way they could have known about the Megan Brown incident, which is entirely to miss the point. Most reasonable people aren't faulting them for failing to speak out about Megan (since many never knew and others were misled). Rather, people are asking why they didn't speak out about the many other instances of abuse that they themselves witnessed firsthand.
But the Guelph athletes seem so caught up in framing every last member of their club as helpless, traumatized victims that no one is willing to reflect on how their community allowed Speed River's toxic club culture to persist for years.

"The term deplatforming also refers generally to tactics, often organized using social media, for preventing controversial speakers or speech from being heard. Deplatforming tactics have included disruption of speeches, attempts to have speakers disinvited to a venue or event, and various forms of personal harassment including efforts to have an individual fired or blacklisted. .
Could you or someone else list all these instances where abuse occurred.
Robyn says that at the post competition party she was berated for 5 minutes in front of many athletes from other schools.
Did anyone see this?
What other incidents occurred?
Robyn Mildren 1:13 half marathon in 2019 and working on a PhD in 2020.
She's excelling in spite of any verbal abuse.
Fred,
I was never a member of the team or club and thus can't answer that question.
All I can say that is that we've seen numerous public statements where Guelph athletes claim to have seen abuse firsthand. All these statements studiously tiptoe around the thorny question of why, if abuse was out in plain sight, no one made a serious effort to put a stop to it. That's not to blame any one athlete in particular for failing to step up, but it is very clearly a collective, communal failure.
Fred, go back to bed, you're still drunk.
Please also post the ‘immediate and harsh replies’.
And do you think he was actually asking a question or making a statement of what he thought should happen? Do you think it was the right time and place? Did he make the same statements publicly/privately to the people who could actually implement those actions, ie USports or UofG?
go look at the comments yourself, I copied and pasted the first one for crying out loud. And he was posting as part of a social media conversation.....much like you are now....get it? SMH
