Canada is so irrelevant in this world and space it's quite amazing...
You miss the point entirely; are you really that clueless?
Brant will move back and still take credit for all the success at UBC
Unbelievable. The guy is very opinionated, but this is insane. ..I hope people let Queen's have it for this one.
wooow that sucks... so you won't get fired for sexual assault but you will get fired for criticising it... On another note I wonder how that will affect the Queen's team and recruits
Oh man, not a great look for Queens. Article says it was because of a heated Facebook thread the coach had with Guelph alum, including Olympian Reid Coolsaet.
Sounds like DST and his ilk may still have sway in the Ontario running community, unfortunately.
Unfortunate that he got fired because he was doing an exceptional job with the Queens program. Unlike most of his other coaching acquaintances, he has been very opinionated on message boards and some people have been offended before by his comments. He's like a Don Cherry type. I admire the guy myself but I understand he sometimes gives an impression that he thinks he's always right and anyone who disagrees with him is an idiot; which is offputting, and perhaps considered narcissistic and unprofessional to some. Sounds as if the Guelph team got offended at his antics and collaborated to try and get him fired and it worked.
Boyd has been a top class runner, both open and masters:
"I am the founder and coach of the Physi-Kult running group. I have competed at the elite level from high-school to masters (over 40), a period of some 30 years. As an open performer, I was a three-time Canadian champion on the road, X-C and track with personal bests of 13:46 for 5k, 28:41 for 10k, 1:03:36 for Half Marathon and 2:17:28 for the marathon, all after the age of 30.
As a masters competitor (now in the 45-49 category), I have recorded personal bests of 14:42 (road), 30:23 (road) and 1:05:42 and many wins in top races across North America, including the Bloomsday 12k, the Utica Boilermaker 15k, and the Vancouver Sun Run 10k. "
Also coached a masters woman onto the Canadian marathon team for Doha last year:

Hopefully he lands somewhere that supports him.
From reading some of the facebook comments from what presumably got him fired, it appears as if he was trying to shame anyone associated with Guelph for enabling the abusive behavior and culture. That is totally unfair and several individuals were clearly offended. He was way out of line there.
Welcome to liberal socialist Canada. Where there’s no freedom of speech and crimes by liberals are covered up.
Please not another lengthy thread about some canadian team no Americans know anything about or care about.
He went on a woman's personal facebook page and asked her if she thought Guelph should be stripped of their titles. Other athlete's pushed back generally with various comments, kinda like this one:
"I think it's so weird that after reading that story, your take-away is that we should lose our titles? I realize that collegiate track and field titles and beating Guelph are like, very important things in your life, but maybe try having some basic empathy? Try to take a step back and work on being the best coach you can be to your athletes, they probably need your support right now, they don't need you arguing with ex-Guelph athletes on-line about how they should lose their titles. I'm sure this story has been very shocking and upsetting for you too....please try and focus on the toll this took on countless young athletes. You're a great coach with lots of talent on your team, I'm sure there are many titles in your future!"
Probably where Boyd went wrong was here:
"Everyone is a prison camp is a victim, but there are also collaborators."
Not the best look to compare kids in a university sports program to prison camp collaborators, especially when we have next to no evidence as to who did or didn't know about the abuse. And I think it is a fair comment that immediately after the story, the focus should be on holding the institutions who failed MB to account and making sure this never happens again. Worrying about who won OUA XC 2007 doesn't mean jack next to that.
Now, I am not a lawyer in Ontario, so can't speak for their employment laws, but this instance was probably not enough to get him fired independently. He probably had several strikes, potentially for online conduct already and was on his last warning.

Indeed he was. That is Boyd: the self-righteous know it all. He can’t help himself.
I love how he is mad that “it took Guelph thirteen years to fire Dave, but only a month to fire him”. He can’t have it both ways - he wouldn’t shut up about all the institutional failures at Guelph, but when Queens acted fast to solve a problem, he complains.
And Doyle’s sputtering tweet implicitly supporting Boyd suggests to me that Doyle wants to keep pushing his agenda. What a mess.
Guelph covered up sex crimes for 13 years.
Boyd gave his opinion on the Internet.
Kind of different “eh.”
Just another reminder that if you value your free speech, avoid present day western universities. The very institutions that used to promote the thoughtful exchange of complex and contrasting ideas have now been perverted by the radical left. They have become radically intolerant of any viewpoints that are deemed incongruent with the prevailing liberal group think.
Follow the money......University of Guelph has a lot to lose ($millions) from their fatcat benefactor and part owner, Lang, who happens to be a big donor to Queen's athletics (re: new stadium) and alumnus. If Doyle wants some real juice, he'll start digging deeper.

Sure the severity of the “crimes” is different, but Boyd always pretends that he’s Mr. principle and “mr. do the right thing.”
If he is openly defying his employer, or openly breaching the explicit or implicit requirements in his employment contract that he not bring disrepute on him or his employer, then he has to take his punishment.
But of course in his view he’s always right, and everyone else is always wrong and there’s no convincing him otherwise.
I feel for the guy, but he really is the architect of his own problems in this case.
Wow. This is crazy.
1) I can't believe he was fired. I can't believe they wouldn't just suspend him or something. Are these full time jobs?
2) That being said, when you are told something by your boss, you need to obey it for the most part, but do we know if he kept posting after they warned him to stop?
3) Some of his arguments were not sound in my mind. No, you don't strip someone of titles because the coach is an alleged sexual predator. Where would we draw the line? What about adultery? Yes, some people are collaborators but most weren't.

Should have stripped DST of all his coach of the year awards at the very least and left the team titles alone.
