I asked the question to try and understand what you were really asking, because the title of the thread seemed to be restricting it to "Japanese-style" under some preconceived notion of what that is.
I'm guessing you want the high mileage without carrying over the intensity found in Daniels under a lesser mileage program.
I think you should at least study Bill Rodgers' old log found online...at least for the 1975 build-up to Boston. My understanding is that in later years he put in more higher-intensity reps, particularly when Alberto joined their track club. But, I think the early log is insightful, and would fit in with what you are trying to do, which is (I think) get in a lot of mileage without destroying yourself.
