You are absolutely right.

https://www.facebook.com/504526673/posts/10156767012496674/?d=nWhy is it so hard that an athlete with dual citizenship chose the non American one. The question should not be why he is competing for Sweden. But why should he competing For the USA.
My bad on the video post. Flo must’ve changed the privacy setting or I screwed up. Either way, there’s a GIF showing the clearance. His legs cleared by quite a bit and his torso was over by 30+ cm.
mechanical doping for sure! That's just a skinny kid, he's not even strong.
Hit pause at 1:45, use , and . keys to step through one frame at a time backwards and forward, respectively.

What?!?! Hahsha no a pole vaulter is not the new Bolt. That's gotta be a joke right. For one thing his popularity is hurt because he's not representing his home country. He'd get a lot more pub if he was. Secondly a vaulter isn't anywhere near the fastest man in the world ever. Dominating everything. He hasn't even won anything yet. But your standards the Frenchman who had the record should of been the next Bolt.
Let him win SOMETHING first. Still don't think he beats Kendricks or even Nelson for that matter.
Shocked there isn't any steroids comments on here yet lol. In that way he did himself a favor not vaulting for the us.
I do love that he's breaking records tho. Awesome.
???? you guys got trolled hard. Welcome to the internet.
Not even a half inch increase. Someone wake me up when he clears 6.30

I’m guessing you’re kidding, but you’re right and wrong. He’s definitely not as strong as he will be when fully mature, which tends to happen around 24/25ish. But for those who don’t realize it, Mondo is very fast and can LJ at a relatively high level. He could be a great decathlete, just like Bubka could have been.

He won’t do that for another 12 meets because he is methodically breaking 1 cm at a time to increase bonuses. Watch the video. He would have easily cleared 6.30 on the record setting jump.

Sounds like he’s got about 25-30 more WRs in him. What’s his bonus for each WR he sets? Maybe 50-100,000? I really have no idea what his contract looks like, but it can’t be the same sort of bonus a runner would get....right?
Anyway I hope Mondo makes boatloads of money. More money that’s paid out to competitors in this sport the better.

*At least another 12 meets... it will likely take considerably longer than this
Amazing Swedish performance. Pole Vault is a pure European event - Europe has had the world record for 40 years straight!
Please refer to field events in imperial and metric terms. Let's protect our sport!!!
6.18 = 20'3" You are welcome.
I don't agree. His shins from ankle to knee look like they were within an inch of the bar as they went over.
Watch him progress starting at age 4 (!!), these home movies are just as impressive as today's world record. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=guSvVZ-3BrM&t=181s

I can't quite agree with this...the US dominated the pole vault for many, many years. The flexible pole was invented in the US and virtually all the poles used today are still made in the US. The dominance by European pole vaulters for the last 40 years or so can largely be attributed to one man: Vitaly Petrov, Bubka's coach. Petrov changed the event and it took years for Americans to catch up, and there are many American coaches around that still haven't. At one point something like 15 of the top 20 male vaulters of all time were coached by Petrov. Even the 2016 Olympic gold medalist from Brazil is coached by Petrov. Then Renaud Lavillenie came along with another, apparently even better technique and changed the event again. For the most part Mondo vaults like Lavillenie.
I think the biggest thing holding American vaulters back is the lack of post collegiate support. Most vaulters don't hit their prime until their mid to late 20s, where can they train during those years in the US? Who's going to buy poles for them? Even a 19' collegiate vaulter has little hope of sponsorship after college, and it could take 4-5 more years to develop them into a 6 meter vaulter where they might be able to get a sponsor and/or get paid to compete. The support system in Sweden was supposedly a major factor to why Mondo is choosing to represent Sweden instead of the US. The US squanders unbelievable quantities of youth pole vault talent. In a typical year in the US there are around 50 or more high school boys over 16', some years there's as many as a dozen over 17'. We had almost 20 collegiate men last year over 18', not counting Mondo. No other country on earth has that kind of depth in the youth pole vault, year after year. Only maybe the old Soviet Union could claim something like that, when Petrov was the national coach. But then all of those US vaulters graduate college and...have to work for a living.
So many salty Americans here. Kendricks isn't gonna win another major championship for the rest of his career.
I think that Sam has been realistic about Mondo for years. As phenomenal as the kid is, even pole vaulters get injuries.
Mondo reminds me of Adam Ondra, the world's best rock climber. He also started when he was 6, has had a sense of destiny with his path in his sport as well, and has been relentless in his progression, and redefining the top end of his sport.
How about replacing the crap video on the home page with something in HD? Field events still getting no respect.
Maybe if Trump blows him he will vault for Team USA.
