How many times do we need to see it before we crack down on the mob for good?
All we have to do is slap the Norse-style "outlaw" label on them, and they'll either be killed or flee the country.
So they are not considered outlaws now?
A Norse-style outlaw can be killed with no legal consequence to the killer. They're unprotected by the law. That's how they discovered America.

De Niro and Pesce playing versions of their characters 30+ years younger did not work at all.
I love Scorsese, but this was a strange project. I think he was trying to make two movies in one and it didn't work that well.
I'm going to take a crack at both of these issues. First, DeNiro and Pesce are allowed this giant self indulgence because they are famous old men.
Can you imagine Jane Fonda or Nicole Kidman playing versions of their characters 30-plus years younger? Would NEVER get away with it.
I also think Scorsese was trying to make two movies in one. Can you imagine a young director doing that? Would NEVER get away with it.
It's time for boring old boomers to move over and let someone else take a crack at things. Like politics. Like film. Like running companies.
Old people should be seen, and not heard, or on film!
Forget about it !!! It is what it is

The directing, bad acting (don't care legends were in it- bad acting), Pacino's unconvincing overacting, the wasted segments. Michael Franzese (real life mobster) said the movie was not accurate on who killed who. We walked out 1:45 through (3:30 long movie).
Arguing topics that are subjective in nature is stupid and a waste of time. Brojos should stop stupid threads like this from taking up site bandwidth. Beyond dumb.

So to President Trump we are all Norse- style outlaws. I got it now.
1917 also SUCKS. Garbage cinematography, garbage green screen, crap props and effects, zero hostorical realism, time shifts, etc.
CRAP
For the longest time I thought "The Irishman" was the same as "Kill the Irishman." I was confused why an old movie was being talked about so much and getting awards.
Has anyone read Frank Sherran’s book? I’m would not be surprised if all the folks complaining about how the movie didn’t make them feel special or have enough violence to satisfy their closeted blood lust had never bothered to turn a page. This film and certainly Mr. Sherran’s story, neither are for the low brows.

The movie was excellent. I was a VERY young kid, 8-14/15, when these events took place. I met every person in that movie except Jimmy Hoffa.
Russ Buffalino was Uncle Russ (not REALLY my uncle).
It was VERY realistic and what I liked about it most was that it doesn't romanticize the lifestyle.
They all ended up dead or in prison for life.
It DOES romanticize the lifestyle because of the 4th wall effect. People know that the actors are famous. And rich. And likeable. People are drawn to famous people on screen. With the magnetic nature of a mass media production in theaters across the world, people are easily influenced. Movies can sway audiences to overlook the real life people who actually MURDERED people. DeNiro pretends to have slight remorse (although he STILL stubbornly refuses to admit his guilt at the end!) But it is a cliche and empty. In reality, the movie glorifies these real life scumbags. Thats why movies should stay with fictional characters and fictional plot lines. Movies like these alter the perception of history because, again, we see robert deniro commit murder, but it is totally ok because he is likeable. Hes got that smirk.
F that movie.
Why do we glorify these gangsters?

How were they glorified?

At least they made a good effort at making a movie.
A for effort.
The whole cast and directors could have said that they were going to drink 29 Budweisers in a 5 hour period instead of making a movie. So they get an A for effort at making movies.
The most overdone schtick ever.
Droning Irish accent, bad man this, bad man that, Pauly something, whack somewhat. Eh. Ridiculous and stupid.
You want to eradicate a gang? Label "the mob" for who they are. Enough of them.

No one in the movie is pretending to have an Irish accent because Frank Sheeran was Pennsylvanian born and raised.
Perhaps the dumbest comment I’ve ever read.
It could be a very good movie. Where can I see it?
I saw it on Netflix. Pretty sure it still is available there.
I couldn't get through it. Gotta agree with most of the sentiments in this thread, It's a generic mob movie with poor acting
