Not a young event - was competed at the first olympic games in 1896.
I just happened to see this.
Doesn't even have his man-body yet.

I'd be happy to lend him mine.
Did he just kiss his mom on the lips?
young man event lol
I’m not sure about that. Lavillenie and Bubka both set their world records(PRs) in their late 20s right?

Bubka's last WR was age 31! Crazy Ukrainian.
Bubka was 29+ years old. Lavillenie 28, when they set their bests. Bubka set his 1st world record at 20, almost to the month, like Duplantis.
No, he was 29 years, 2 months when he set his 6.15 in Donetsk.
Impressed that nobody has tried to splain the height to the imperial measurements geezers. Did they finally all die?
6m17 converts to 20' 2.9"
At least he was smart enough to stop there.
Levillanie ended up injured when he continued on and tried 5cm higher after his WR.

Mondo got started way younger than those guys did:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xm8z8pa-PMIt takes at least 10 years to become a world class vaulter. Lavillenie might be the exception as he started pretty late, but he was a very naturally gifted athlete.

Renaud was never the same after he got hurt the day he jumped 6.16, I'm not sure he ever jumped on a pole that big again, he never jumped within 10 cm of his world record after that.
I predict Mondo will raise the record 1 cm at a time like Bubka did to milk those WR bonuses. Mondo certainly looks capable of 6.2 meters right now and he had the hip height on this jump of something like 6.25 meters. There are those that think 6.4 meters (21') is humanly possible, Bubka certainly had that kind of hip height on a couple of his jumps but he never tried to jump that high during his prime because he was always chipping away at the record just enough to earn another WR bonus. Here's what Bubka could do in his physical prime:

What a great Swedish athlete, representing Sweden!
What does it take to do a good pole vault?
Sprint speed? Jump? Upper body strength? Mostly just technique?
His technique looks great. I am sure there are better sprinters who are taller with stronger upper bodies than him.
It takes good Swedish coaching.
