I think it's similar to the last iteration, where they have some complementary training shoes (Zoom Fly played this role). The Alphafly is the racing shoe. I'm curious if these shoes will be adjusted to be legal because it appears they won't. They're also being released in the summer, which means they're subject to the 4 months rule and useless to elites until possibly 2021 (or a very late 2020 marathon). The Stack height looks extremely high, though it notes there is just one carbon fiber plate, so it is kosher on that front. Either way I won't be buying if they're illegal for the elites, but I'm sure they will be around in full flight in Chicago/NYC Marathon.
The Runner's World magazine article, to the extent they have insider information, says that they will be legal for the Olympics.
Honestly, this makes me a little sad. Was hoping we would not see a production AlphaFly - not because it isn't amazing technology, but because I feel it is drawing a little away from the competitiveness of our sport. Perhaps I will be proven wrong.
And, for the record - have to agree with RaggedMan - yikes! Not a looker.
