You do know how fast his dad was, right?

Has he ever beat sprout h2h? No trash talk just an honest question.
Besides both being from Colorado they haven't raced each other much and only once on the track where Sprout beat him 4:04.19 to 4:04.82 at the Music City distance carnival late last spring.
Otherwise, Just xc and only at Desert Twightlight and NXN/R
Has never faced him head to head in the 8 or 16 in Colorado, and definitely not the 3200 which Culpepper has hardly raced ever.
Sprout's in 5a classification and Culpepper is in 4a.
Culpepper has much faster wheels than Sprout.
(Sprout has a hard time breaking 54 for 400)
Culpepper would smoke him at 800 but it would be quite a race this season for the mile.
.....Young beats all this year at 2 mile and up including Sprout.
Is Young going to sit on people or just go for it? Because then the what he did to sprout could happen to him lol. If he goes for it in big races.
Eh Young might be a cut above everyone this year. Might be good enough to lead the whole way. I agree drafting will have more of an effect in track than XC though.
My college coach told me I ran too many empty miles in high school.
Cruz is currently being coached by Joe Bosshard. I find it odd that he's not being coached by his high school coach at Niwot since Kelly has a good reputation for coaching good high school kids.

Why is that preferable to "full mile"?
It isn’t. But full mile is also stupid. A mile is a set distance. If you ran a mile, you ran a mile. If we add qualifiers to the word mile, we encourage people to believe that there are various distances that can be called the mile. There aren’t.
I have yet to see a situation were someone said “he ran a mile” and meant 1600metres.
He already has the same 800m pr as his dad so he's definitely closer to his Mom speed wise.
That's unfortunate. Some high school coaches and parents are delusional.
Are you serious? More people than not talk about the mile in high school even though 99% of high school runners will never run a mile. They refer to the best milers in their state even though their state competes in the 1600.
He's not doing high milege, he's said in interviews hes 40-50 MPW

Yeah, but probably not quite on the same level as Bosshard. There's also no one at Niwot that can push Cruz in training, so it makes sense for him to try to find a group during the offseason where there may be some guys faster than him.

Well that’s too bad. I am lucky enough that I haven’t had to deal with such people.
In any event, if we continue to use “full mile” we are enabling people who can’t be bothered to be precise.

I think you mean "accurate." Precision is a measure of variance between measurements of the same observation. Accuracy describes the difference between the measure and the actual value. Someone who ALWAYS calls the 1600m the mile is being precise, but not accurate.

The most competitve Americand rigbt now are Houlihan and Schweizer. They are both female, both ran 35mpw in HS, and both are from Iowa. So why should the guys follow a different path when girls develop even earlier than boys?
Sarah Hall ran tons of millage and is doing great. Ritz did well off of 90 miles per week in HS and still running more then any of the HS athletes were are talking about.
You're hand picking the results you want.
Coaches that don't know what they are doing always say "I think you need to under train your athletes for college success".
There is no one way is best. It about coaching a developing the athlete, not saying this is too much or too little.
It is not hand picking to point out what worked for the top 1 and 2 Americans. There may not be one best path but certainly the one that generated 2 American records should at least be considered. Kurgat won XC this year after only starting running a few years ago. Bosley was the top freshmen and he was on relatively low miles in high school. Fisher was not a high mileage guy either.
Is this track considered record-eligible for all purposes (high school, college, USATF, and whatever IAAF is now called)? I thought that it was considered oversized, at least for purposes of indoor records.

precisely accurate - UW track is oversized making it not quite a full mile. Efraimson and Simpson have some "best" marks there, that are not official due the oversize track.

I don't think you understand what "oversized" means. It's still a full mile, accurately measured.
RIP: D3 All-American Frank Csorba - who ran 13:56 in March - dead
RENATO can you talk about the preparation of Emile Cairess 2:06

Hats off to my dad. He just ran a 1:42 Half Marathon and turns 75 in 2 months!
