Matt, you sure do hit the heavy weights a lot... How is your mile shape right now?
Brutal

Rojo has spent ten plus years creating negative narratives about every aspect of running. I think Nick might actually appeal to young runners. I applaud him for his efforts.
I liked the video. I want to see the one he promises to make about why the Vaporfly isn't as good as spikes on the track.
I’ll bet you drink your Hatorade with your pinky up.
This guy is probably the one of the few people in the world with the credentials, look, and personality to make distance running half assed entertaining.
Your implying that his 4:40 mile wasn’t legitimate, A FOuR FoURty mile! This guy was one of the best middle distance runners in the world for a very long time. A 4:40 mile is like a 6:40 mile for mere mortals.... that’s absolutely nothing to be proud of.
If you can’t give the guy props for trying to make running entertaining, then you, my friend are a real deal hater.

His 4:40 is legit, it's one of the only ones that is real. He couldn't fake that one with so many other people in the track. His previous efforts, not-so-much. I find it funny that you all blindly believe everything you see. Symmonds has been staging publicity stunts for ages now. His entire fight with USATF over branding was just a stunt to get exposure for Run Gum. The date with Paris Hilton was all about getting exposure for himself. This new wave of YouTube nonsense is about 1/3 Run Gum promotion, 1/3 extra YouTube cash and 1/3 pure ego. I'm not mad at Symmonds, I'd probably even have a beer with the guy, I just hate that he can't play things straight. I know for a fact that some of those times he claims to have run are fake. I know those videos were edited and I have no problem pointing that out. Most people here are so easily duped that they will lap up anything he spews so it's mostly pointless on my part, but still fun.
The biggest question I have about Symmonds, after seeing all the stuff he does to get a leg up, is whether he employed those same tactics as a professional athlete and doped. He pushes caffeine as specifically markets it as a PED and it's clear that he would take ANY substance to gain an advantage as long as he could get away with it. That's the part about him that I don't like. That's the part that I question. That, and his fake girlfriend.

Nick Symmonds is a sideshow. Watch my kooky vids. Buy my rungum.
It would be cool to see him do a downhill 400 meter dash all out and see if he can run 42.13 seconds.
I think he should train for that at this point. That would be awesome to watch. It would be the new unofficial WR in the 400 meter dash. He could post this all over his youtube page.
Downhill races definitely give an advantage to those who are more speed orientated. This course was ridiculous though. Perfectly straight, 294 feet downhill and probably a tailwind. Donavan Brazier would have likley run 3 flat going down this thing.

He should try to do a downhill 100 meter dash somewhere in Oregon and see if he can run 8.9 seconds.
That would be the new unofficial WR in the 100 meter dash.
Would be really funny to watch. I think this is a great idea for his youtube page.
really gotta hand it to him wrote:
he just keeps pumping out interesting content. real friendly guy and doing a very respectable job on the youtube scene. i enjoyed this video way more than i did the "world records" that he was setting a few months back. keep it up, nick!
And a decade or two from now, he'll probably be in the news for doing something improper with children...
that was extremely watchable. he's getting better at scripting and editing his videos. i jumped ahead very little. nice video.

Yeah I think so too.

i would believe this to be the case. my teammates and i tend to appreciate symmonds' videos more than say, the athletespecial or the levet guy. those two just seem way too self-absorbed for college kids. nick knows he isn't elite anymore so he does wacky stuff. we don't take him too seriously but tend to find his videos amusing-- much more so than other track/xc "vloggers."
just curious, same course, shoes, tail wind, pacer etc how fast could a man go?
And you can easily find the road he ran on, it is just outside of the Lane College track- it is 30th Ave. Based on where he starts and finishes on the video, he ran pretty close to a mile. Gmap it and you'll see it was accurate. That, and his watch data, should tell you he ran around 4:00 for this very downhill mile (which he fully admits to it being downhill in the video). I find it really hard on my legs to run downhill fast, so I was impressed and entertained.

I wonder why he didn't run it on the track?
He addressed that.
They’re not track shoes, they’re road racing shoes.
I’m surprised no one has challenged the part where he flies with rocket boosters from the track to the road.
many insufferable people here. Nick seems like a decent guy and is having fun while making a living. Watch him or don't.

I feel like he would hurt himself with at least 80% probability trying that. either from falling or the forces he is putting out.

Everyone knows that fake GF is just a smokescreen.

If you count flying starts, several guys have run 8.6-8.9 in relays or 200m splits. Bolt 8.65 in a relay in 2015, Powell 8.68 in a relay in 2008 and Johnson 8.76 40-140m in his WR. Blake might have hit faster during his 19.26 with an absurd 0.269 r.t.
