CDC estimates, that between Oct. 1 and Feb. 1, there were at least 22 million #flu illnesses, 210,000 flu hospitalizations and 12,000 deaths from flu. IN THE U.S. ALONE.

USA #1
Fear Mongering!!! Didn't they just finish building 2 hospitals and are turning people away that are sick?? Not saying that this virus will kill as many as the flu has or will, but don't dismiss it as nothing.

At some point the best strategy for China is to give up on quarantine so as not to nuke its own economy. A loss of a very elderly 2% of the population would be far less painful than a double-digit dive in GDP. When that happens Covid 19 will go pandemic everywhere. The degree of complacency about this in the US is mind-boggling. Get your N95 masks now. None will be available when the disease goes viral in the US.
N95 masks won't stop the virus from infecting you, since it is smaller than .3 microns, although they might help reduce the amount of people you yourself pass the infection onto.

It's a loser. They say it's been at it for three months already, it's barely out the gate and winter's almost over.
Better weather, stronger immune systems, forget it, this virus is done. Probably has a hard time spreading. Probably mutates too fast to stay dangerous for long.

It always amazes me how dismissive people are of the flu. I think we need to go back to the full name "Influenza" which at least sounds a bit more serious than the flu. Four of the worst ten pandemics in history were Influenza.
https://www.mphonline.org/worst-pandemics-in-history/Wow, I thought the "it's no worse than the flu bro" guys disappeared. It's still very early in this story from what I've read. It's a running story now because a couple of WMM could be cancelled in my opinion. Yes Boston. But yeah, that's fear mongering saying a marathon could be cancelled. Notice big tech is cancelling conferences while shutting down any citizen reporter?

You are an idiot. Caronavirus is just another flu. Most people who get it survive, just like happens with other strains of flu.
"A coronavirus is one of a number of viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, the viruses cause respiratory infections, including the common cold, which are typically mild"
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/other/index.htmlWe do not take the kind of precautions for the seasonal Flu as we are here. The vast percentage of fatalities are among the elderly and those who are immunocompromised. However, the current coronavirus has a slightly different spectrum of fatalities like the doctor who was jailed for publicizing the outbreak. MERS and SARS also killed patients outside the normal spectrum. A paper from Los Alamos this week which used hard data from the cruise ship and other open sources has now presented evidence that the virus is more contagious than thought and that the period of person to person transmission is also longer than what had been previously thought. This means that additional precautions should be taken to keep the outbreak from spiraling into a true epidemic.
Watching people opine on systemic risks and unknown unknowns is like watching monkeys use computers.
Anyone using current numbers to predict what's going to happen tomorrow or beyond demonstrates the kind of stupidity that comes from University "education". These are the people who go on to solve problems they themselves create and/or become the idiots who worry more about measles or the flu.

You don't take the kind of measures of locking down 800 million people, and inflict the amount of economic damage that China has to itself, for "just another flu." Therefore, logic dictates that it is horrifically lethal, and the numbers reported are bogus, both from China, and the rest of the world to prevent panic.

COVFEFE-19 will turn out to be the Trump of Coronaviruses. Just when it looks like it has been successfully thwarted, Divine Intervention shall deliver it.
Exactly. Hope we're not making the same mistake as they did. Hope we have some whistleblowers if it gets bad and they say "just a bad flu season bro". Surprised by the lack of critical thinkers on this forum. Or are they trolls?
Will Shrimp Zoo become a hero like the Dr. in Wuhan? Will the cruise ship be renamed?

(article: everyone panic!!! two old people in their 80's died on Japanese ship)
Funny you mention the JAPANESE, are they in on the cover-up or do we agree it's only killing the elderly ones?
Lots of other countries have to be in on it too, there's hundreds of cases outside China, yet only a few deaths.

They pulled the article. It looks like it was a misprint.
All the same. Looks like LRC isn't woried about coronavirus. We should totally have a 40,000 person potluck dinner at the trials. /s
I imagine if those folks in China had kept their mouths shut they'd still be alive.
