my husband used to collect sneakers but has stopped and only buys a pair every few months. He doesn't go crazy buying pairs and his collection is rather small now. He's sold a few of his "grails" as he calls it so we could put a downpayment on our house. We both work reasonable jobs and have enough to save and pay for the mortgage each month.
But seriously, something just clicked in his head and he apparently went crazy this weekend. I seriously cannot believe he spent that much on shoes. I come home this morning after a graveyard shift to a few shoe boxes scattered around the living room floor. I thought to myself, maybe he's getting rid of some more pairs and don't really give it a second thought.
Be thankful he doesn't have a Razor, or collect guns, or even into golf. Or that he doesn't spend $75 three nights a week drinking.
$2500 in one pop is a lot, unless he has been saving that money by himself specifically for this. I think if I spent that much on a whim out of "our" money, my wife would leave me. But I dunno.. there are definitely worse hobbies to have.
i'd probably tell him the shoes are fine, as long as 1. bills are paid and it's not causing financial stress, 2. he doesn't turn your house in a hoarding mess of sneakers, and 3. he can spend $X without discussing it with you first.. anything more and he needs to tell you. Be it $100 or $1000, whatever you think is reasonable.
