Smart move! Much better run even Paces throughout the weekend! Probably somewhere around 9:10, 1550 pace respectively. Although it's tough to tell for sure depends how much of an effort this weekend was.

What was smart exactly? Looks like she ran all out in all races indicating about 16:20 shape.

Her coach is horrible. There was no reason for her to race again, let alone race the way she did. She went out hard then struggled. Almost every lap was slower than the one before it in both races. Splits:

First few laps were probably adrenaline and trying to ensure that she was completely out of the pack. Realistically, for a runner like Tuohy it's much better to run the first 400-600 hard rather than evenly pace it and risk having people trip her. Then she started to slow because she had no reason to really continue pushing.

In her race on Saturday, she was out too fast but was in the middle of the pack. These races are nit a good sign for her future. She may get beaten by 20 seconds at Brooks.

This looks to be a very long season for Tuohy.

It is amazing to me how much people are reading from the results of races they may not even have seen, but I guess I will weigh in. If we assume the 9:34 on Saturday was a big struggle and that is all she had, then to me, the double she did on Sunday is pretty good. On the Sunday races, for her going out at 2:27 for 800 in a 3,000 is not a hard pace , and then cruising about 2:30 (to 4:48) and then 5:20 pace for the last 1400 doesn't mean she was collapsing. And if she was collapsing, how did she so easily win the 1500 just several hours later? So, unless you were there and could actually see what effort she was exerting, I think you should back off and deciding what shape she is in, and is not in. For one thing, if her workouts suggested she was only in 9:20-9:30 shape, why would she even get into the race with the 9:00 and faster pros, and then try to run with them through 2000, never mind continue to talk about running 15:20? It seems to me the most likely answer is she had a bad race (due to the pressure discussed by her coach afterward) and that is it. The Saturday race and effort no doubt affected the Sunday races some, so they provide no real insight into what times she is capable of at this time.

Who cares what she is capable of now, this stupid coaching is destroying her body for college and beyond. You could hear the NC State coaches groaning about the idiotic triple all the way to Chapel Hill.

I was addressing horrible coaching's response regarding her races the next day. I don't think she'll race Brooks PR. I think it'll be better for her to simply focus on relays this year because she seems to have more fun racing with her team and having to split sub-4:40 on the DMR and sub-2:10 on the SMR along with defending her 2 mile title will be too much for her with the quality of the competition in the DMR and 2 mile especially.

She had a disappointing race amplified that she was running against pros running sub 9 times. But it is laughable to write her off after one race. The same silliness happened after Milerose a few year back.

That said, while I totally get the pressure of going for a third title at NXN, I sure hope she was not stressed by running the Dr. Sanders, a race no one thought she could win. There is no reason for her to be putting so much pressure on herself. If she loses a race, so what? But we are dealing with a 17 year old, so she will learn that.

Well after Milerose she broke two national records. Time will tell.

She raced 3K on Jan 22, 25 and 26th in addition to the 1500 on Jan 22 and 26. That makes for at least 112 times she's raced on the track since freshman year to go along with at least 41 races in XC.

Looks like she's on pace for about 170 races by the time she graduates. Sounds like a lot to me, but is that actually pretty normal?

She has been racing since 7th grade. I'm not sure if your tally includes relays because those don't show up on milesplit.

She has also been running over 60 miles per week at sub 7 pace.

It's all too much.

Everybody's hung up on the Pro Race. But clearly she wanted to run the next day with her team and be part of that meet

To run a 4:30 1500 and a 9:40 3K the day after a fairly hard 3K seems pretty impressive

When you also factor in that she had no reason to run fast and could have run a 10:20 3 K and still easily won

I was hoping some actual Runners would weigh in and give an idea of what kind of times they could do over a weekend like this compared to running 1 all out race and then taking a couple of days recovery

You are clearly the one who has never run competitively before. What she did is not impressive considering her PR is 9:01 in the 3k and 4:14 the 1500.

The issue is that she ran all out the 1st night and only ran a 9:32. The next day, she went all out again and could only run a 9:40 (nearly the same splits as her first 3k). She then split 70 in her 1500 and couldn't hold that pace and faded down to only run a 4:36.

You want to know what she can run right now? Nowhere near her PR. This dumb triple does not prove superior fitness. She is exactly as fit as the times she ran.

You're not far from saying that because Kipchoge only ran 4:33 all out for 26.2 miles, he's only in shape to run a 4:33 mile. Which ironically means that Tuohy as a sophomore could have run with Kipchoge.

Ummm... distance Runners dont run at their PR pace for three races in two days.... what world do you live in in? You really think any of the girls who ran top times on Saturday had two races on Sunday?

If you're such a great Runner why don't you Enlighten us with what you can do in three races like that time wise verse what you could do if you ran one hard race on a Saturday then took a recovery day

Running 3 races all SIGNIFICANTLY slower than your PR is not impressive. Sorry. It's just not. Not hating on her or her coach. Not everything needs to be "impressive," and this wasn't.
