If every person in the world had to vote on the greatest country and people couldn’t vote for their own country, who would win?
Others may knock America until they have to leave their own country and it then is #1 in the list.

America is the greatest in many ways, but we won’t stay great unless we help people - our own and internationally as well.

The Atlantic and Pacific are huge and too large to cross. Land is much safer.
I moved here from another country.
On balance, America is the best country in the world.

Why?
Healthcare? Higher education? The debt incurred from either?
Opioid and drug epidemics?
Homelessness? Poverty?
Availability of guns? Violence? School shootings?
Racism? Bigotry?
Religious beliefs? Number of churches on every main street?
Defense spending? National debt?
Number of people in prison?
Current immigration policies?
The president?
Conditioning. Perhaps we were "the best" country at one time, but we turned that belief into a state of permanence instead of recognizing it requires upkeep. I'd point to the 80s when we really started to be arrogant about our world status while other countries were actually implementing social policies to better their nations.
Because most "Americans" have not been anywhere ever.
Americans is already a loaded word in itself, since the US high jacket a term which stands for two continents.
The US had a lot of good things going for them but other countries have caught up and the economic dominance is over. Right now the balance is shifting towards Asia. It's a numbers game and there are just more people there.
Only country to have put men on the moon.

Our men's team is a joke and will never win a world cup. FIFA may be a broken institution but that's no excuse for us not not even make it out of qualification.
Plumbing.
Also: Even our worst public restrooms are better than the average Euroloo.
Outside the cities, kind, down to earth, unsnotty ppl.
Most freedom-loving; least likely to give in to authoritarianism; least likely to fold to a strongman (think France, or the citizens of Germany, or Italy, or Greece, etc., etc.). Most productive work ethic on earth.
Country most likely to help other countries; "Givingest" (most charitable) population on earth.
Between 2009 and 2018 (i.e., 10 years running), percentage that had "helped a stranger or someone they didn’t know who needed help, donated money to charity, or volunteered their time to an organization."

3: Yemen (nest of vipers)
2: GREECE (weasels)
1: CHINA (our new insect overlords).
The premise of the question is wrong. The fact that Trump campaigned (and won) on Make America Great Again was an admission by him (and enough Americans that vote for him) that America was not great yet. (Nevermind the greatest.)

U.S. currently has largest aggregate g.d.p. (Gross Domestic Product) but not largest g.d.p. per capita. Look at g.d.p. per capita listed by International Monetary Fund, World Bank, United Nations and Central Intelligence Agency. U.S. has a g.d.p. per capita of 7th, 8th, 9th & 19th. Depending on list viewed, China ranks 64th, 65th, 75th & 108th, g.d.p., per capita. China's economy is growing at 2 1/2 to 3 to times faster than U.S. economy. China will have a larger aggregate g.d.p. than U.S. within a dozen or so years. When that occurs, U.S. will start using g.d.p. per capita. When viewed by g.d.p, per capita, U.S. will not be too far ahead of France &/or Germany. Low taxes in U.S. makes U.S. a tax haven for billionaires. Minus the 600 plus billionaires in U.S., g.d.p. per capita and aggregate g.d.p. numbers are not great in U.S.. Have you noticed it is rare for French and/or German citizens to move to U.S. over past 60 years?
