Lmao at his "work ethic." He's playing a frigging game.
Pretty safe to say it’s because he knew his grandma was going to pass and was able to find some closure before it actually happened whereas Kobe died suddenly.
This is fairy normal.
But why accept someone else’s story when you can anonymously trash them and try to make them feel bad. If anyone is garbage, it’s you.

Uhhh both subjects of this thread are engaging in such.

You can show a strong work ethic at everything - some more important than others, but it’s still work ethic.
He wasn’t a perfect person, but I’ve learned a lot from him. He’s a true “process” and “journey” guy. It wasn’t about goals. It was about getting better everyday.

Pat Porter. Epitomized grit. I met Pat, but never Kobe. Once asked what he did in Alamosa when he had 6 x mile to do and it was 5 degrees out with 20 mile per hour winds, Pat did not hesitate to answer, "well, I put on an extra pair of wind pants and get out there." Kobe would not get out of bed.
Perhaps Pat should have chosen a sport/career that doesn't require someone do something stupid for a few dollars a year salary.
If grit is defined as doing something painful and stupid, then the guys who did the show Jack@ss should be hall of famers for grit. They never backed down from anything painful and stupid.
If it's 5 degrees out with 20mph winds, I'm also staying inside with my family.
Dale Earnhardt.
Pat Porter?
Never heard of him. Why do we care about a 13:30 5k runner?
If you truly believe the only impact he had was playing basketball, you are severely misinformed. Kobe's philanthropy work in China, with veterans, after-school programs, and women's sports is vast. He is also a business mogul and academy award winner. Your lack of knowledge on his impact on and off the court makes sense. This board is full of ignorant people who like to hear themselves talk, but they have nothing to say.

Neither.
I didn't know either of them. Neither of them even knew I existed. Not a single thing they did had any impact on my life.
Was going to say the exact same thing

Kobe felt helpless to save his daughter in his final moments just like the father of the girl he assaulted in 2013. Sometimes things just work themselves out
Well, perhaps they'll work themselves out for you, too. One can but hope.
guess nobody cares about those Australian fires anymore
Pat was a close friend of mine. I can't describe how surreal it felt when hearing of his tragic death. I am a big fan of Kobe but never met him. I can say that as a retired professional athlete I admired his commitment to excellence. To be the ABSOLUTE BEST that he could be setting the bar for many athletes around the world to be their best no matter what sport they participated is to be honored and never forgotten. My heart truly aches for the families of both.
RIP Pat Poter
RIP Kobe Bryant
Pat. I was an air traffic controller in Aspen where he used to fly periodically. I didn’t realize who he was until I asked about the Olympic Rings on the tail of his Duke one day and he told me he had been a distance runner and that getting the Olympic Rings painted on was one of the things that helped him convince his wife to let him by the plane. Tragic when I heard a few years later what happened to him. Small interaction but shocking. Kobe was shocking and tragic too of course.
Three firefighters died in Australia fighting the bush fires. It's a pity no one sang a song for them at the Grammys.
Who the f is Pat Porter?
Robin Williams

Pat was an 8 time United States of America National Champion in Cross Country and multiple time top 10 finisher at the World Cross Country Championships. He also set a then 10k world road race record and a 2 time Olympian in the 10,000 meter.
Pat or Kobe? Neither, my choice is the aborted baby down at the clinic earlier today, about 3 miles from all of our homes, who never was given a chance to live a life and achieve their dreams.
Pat and Kobe both did.
