Never heard of Pat Potter but one could ask: Pre or Kobe? The difference is that in this case also his daughter was killed which makes the situation so much more devastating because the family not only lost their dad but one of the siblings.

My grandma died last month after falling, causing a stroke and putting her in a coma. I would consider myself fairly close to her. Didn’t cry when she passed away, and I don’t take much to cry.
My brother sent me a text today while I was out running errands about Kobe. Immediately started crying and continued for like an hour. I’m 19, so I didn’t get to watch him for very long, but that time I did between my middle school years and until he retired was amazing. I don’t know what it is about him but you can just tell this one hurt everybody. If you’re a fan of basketball you felt this one bad.
For me it was Pre.....(Pat Porter was a shock too )....but as much as I hated Kobe,( Killing the Blazers.).....he was an awesome player........Kobe was a world wide personality..........much more than others........God rest his sole and his daughter and family.......damm..........please hugs to you friends and family.......Peace to all of you brothers and sisters.......

It was Pat Pointer - not Potter.
neither. Honestly, I don't really care. People die every day.
I've never heard of Pat Porter, which sounds disrespectful, but I don't know most people on Earth.
Kobe was surprising, I'll say that. I can't explain it, but when he was on top of it all in the mid 2000s, I found that I was a fan of his even though I was not, generally speaking, a fan of the NBA.
Don't feel bad, the majority of posters on this board have a poor working knowledge of the history of the sport. JohnBros are partially culpable in that.

You obviously know nothing of Kobe’s work ethic. He worked on perfecting his game more than ANYONE in basketball history. Ask anyone in the know. From a rookie until 19th year, he was the first person at practice and usually the last to leave.
Kobe was a ball hog

Dude, you are garbage. Nothing for your grandma but deep emotions for some rich celebrity rapist that doesn’t even know you exist. Re think your life so you are not garbage.
Steve Prefontaine - I was in high school and the guy was the epitome of US Distance Running, hanging out with Shorter and duking it out on the track week after week. The guys back then raced (indoor, outdoor, XC) instead of picking one or two races per year. It tore me up when Pre died and though he didn't have Kobe's career or $$$ - he was an international star. RIP Pre, Porter, Kobe.
Hey you don't know him, he may have good reason to resent his family.
Does anyone know when the funeral is? I bet the late Mrs. Bryant might need a shoulder to lean on.

What a rich person way to die.
not even close, btw....Kobe raped a girl in 2003. probably not related to you?

Pat Porter. Epitomized grit. I met Pat, but never Kobe. Once asked what he did in Alamosa when he had 6 x mile to do and it was 5 degrees out with 20 mile per hour winds, Pat did not hesitate to answer, "well, I put on an extra pair of wind pants and get out there." Kobe would not get out of bed.
If it would have made him a better basketball player he would have. Mamba Mentality.

Kobe is pretty tough, training on his own at 430 am before team practices, but basketball is in a climate controlled environment so the weather outside is irrelevant for it.
Porter and Bryant are 2 of the toughest athletes in their respective sports.
Pat's. I know nothing about the NBA and have zero interest in basketball. I met Pat and raced against him, getting my butt kicked of course. Even corresponded with him (this was before email!). He was a first class athlete, but more importantly, a first class person. I was crushed when he died.
I liked Pat Porter but his death didn't impact my life. I read about it and that's it.

This clearly shows you didn’t know Kobe. His will to play through pain and discomfort is legendary. This is not to diminish Pat’s toughness. And it’s not to forgive Kobe’s other flaws (which in some part were driven by the same uncompromising will to win at everything no matter the cost).

Kobe made two free throws on a ruptured Achilles, you ignorant buffoon.
Kobe felt helpless to save his daughter in his final moments just like the father of the girl he assaulted in 2013. Sometimes things just work themselves out
