I'm a slow guy (in roughly 3:10 marathon shape) but I do have the capacity to run high mileage (80-100mpw). I've strung together a month of 120 mpw of easy mileage in the past and 105mpw for 2 months straight with no injuries but this was all easy base mileage with no workouts.
My question is, I have 17 weeks to prep for my next marathon and I want to break 3hrs.
I've often seen people say "you're running too much for your goals". But that never seemed to make sense to me. If you want to maximize your own running potential, doesn't it make sense to run the most mileage you can during a buildup (without injuring yourself)?
People have said I'd be "faster" if I cut down on the mileage to the 50-60 mpw but once again, it doesn't make much sense to me.
Can anyone maybe clarify this?
