I had no idea Tyler Day still had eligibility, as 2018 was his last xc season. He must be the fastest 5000m runner in history with a 1:57 800m pr. Actually closer to 1:58 than 1:57. This was a 9 second pr for a guy who ran 13:25 last year. Fine runs from Baxter (13:27), Grijalva (13:29), and another guy I forget a couple seconds back. Beamish at 13:51 is surprising. Maybe he tried to stick at the top or was sick. I had him as a favorite for indoor 1500m.
They run 1609+ meters indoors.
Right you are.

What is it's stack height?
And you are telling me this is not a sign of doping! American kids are doping too! If he was kenyan, his progression would look scetchy as heLL! So I am not giving him any free pass!
Do you realize his best is like 3:46/ 1500m, 28:04 /10k!
His 13:25 was already very impressive and almost unbelievable! If He can run 13:16, then Luis Grijalva can run 13:05-13:06 indoor, this would be crazy!!!

Flagstaf EPO History Thread from a few years back. (I don't personally think NAU athletes are on the juice)
https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6195275#6195870This result point to a very good outdoor season upcoming for Day. I don't know if he has the last lap turnover to make a team on the track just yet, but he'll be up there for sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if he took another chunk off his current 5K PR in the coming months.
The only juice Tyler Day is on is orange juice
Beamish is a miler, not a 5,000m runner. He is handy in XC and can pop a solid 5,000 here and there but he’s definitely a miler.

Of course it's not a sign of doping, don't be ignorant. If he was Kenyan, his progression would look just as credible as it is right now.
"Oh, but he's a 3:46/28:04 guy! it boggles the mind!"
No it doesn't. We've all known for years now that Day is anything but a miler, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. You probably overlooked it, but Day ran a 4:08.22 mile last week at NAU's home track meet- the Lumberjack Team Challenge. 4:08.22 at 7000 feet converts to a 3:59.21. That's a good time for a guy who isn't known for having tremendous foot speed. As for that 28:04 and 13:25, remember that he ran that 10k PR back in May of 2018, almost a year and a half ago, and that 13:25 was run in May of 2019. This progression, isn't unthinkable. He redshirted last cross country season, meaning he's probably in the best shape he's ever been in this early in the year (Last December he ran 14:03 at 4000 feet.)
I'm not saying that Day's 13:16 wasn't unexpected and surprising. Thinking any American runner in the NCAA this year would take down a Rupp record would've been blasphemous. However, since Day did run 13:16, we can work backwards to realize how we might have seen this coming. I mean, hell, he ran that time in Boston. You don't need to look any further than Yomif Kejelcha's world record attempt last winter to see how fast Boston is.
Also, how would Day's result indicate Luis is capable of running 13:06? You're an hardcase.
The plot thickens...
The Nike connection is already paying dividends for Smith. The other guys in the race besides NAU were former NOP guys now being coached by Pete Julien, including the pacer. I wonder how long this race has been planned. There is more to the Smith/Rupp coaching relationship than meets the eye.

After his 3rd at 2017 NCAA Cross Country and a low 28:00 in Spring 2018, I thought he could be the next great American-born marathoner. I started to doubt it after he seemed to go backwards since then.
From the interview, it looks like he has his motivation back and this race shows he is headed in the right direction. I wonder where he goes as a pro and if he is aiming for the 5000 or 10000 for the Olympic Trials.
He ran road 10K solo of 28:20 at Phoenix 10k in November.
The question you need to ask yourself: is Ryan Raff in 13:12 shape, since he spanked Tyler Day at Mountain T's LAST WEEK!

Yet he ran 5,000 at outdoor nationals (Austin, TX).
Who cares? At the end of the day, our distance running sucks because Americans are at best simply competing for who can be the best non-African, as opposed to who can be the best in the world...

Cool, Mike Smith now coaches Rupp and Day.
Now, what would be really impressive is if he coached Knight and Day - that would undoubtedly make him the hardest working coach in the biz.
10/10

But yet you care about what the men might look like in drag.

If tinman coached both Hunter and Fisher, he could get a sponsorship deal with Cabela's

Bravo, well done.
