Eli is a career .500 quarterback.
OTOH, he has two super bowl MVPs. He came up big in some big games.
Does he belong in the hall?

Mediocre for a long time. Two good playoff runs. Not even close to HOF for me, but some people think he's a lock.
Jim Plunkett has worse stats than Eli Manning, but Plunkett played most of his career in Tough Guy Era (1970s). Put Plunkett in first with his two Superbowl victories then we'll discuss E Manning.
The two Super Bowl MVPs is all it takes.
There's several HOF QBs who have no SB wins (Jim Kelly has four SB appearances but no wins).
Just being a one-time SB MVP is amazing, but two...he's definitely in! ?
Gonna have to say yes. 7th all time in passing yards...2 Super Bowl MPVs, 4 Pro Bowls. He's not the greatest quarterback ever, but based on who is in already, he stacks up well.
Also, the NFL seems to be more lenient with who gets in than Major League Baseball. I think he should get in and will get in.
The thing about MVPs is that some really random people have won them. Desmond Howard? Malcolm Smith? Santonio Holmes?
In Super Bowl XLII, Manning was 19/34 for 255 with 2tds and a pick. He also fumbled twice. But looking at the stats line, no one else stands out (had the Pats won, Brady would have had the MVP).
His stat line in Super Bowl XLVI looks more dominating -- 30/40 for 296 and one touchdown. Again, had they lost, Brady would have had the MVP.
Not close to hall of fame calibre. In the prime years of his career he was no better than the 10th to 15th best quarterback in the league. He played a long time so his career totals are high (yards, TD passes, etc.) but we're sophisticate enough with stats these days to recognize how meaningless that is.
He gets in on his two SBs alone. How many great QBs are really good but everyone says yeah but they’ve never won the big one or they’re only good in the regular season. Well Eli won the big one twice nonetheless against an absolute dynasty. Can’t have it both ways, he’s in.

So many lousy quarterbacks have won Super Bowls which makes that not mean much (Joe Flacco, Trent Dilfer). Plunkett who has been discussed has won two and can't get in the hall without buying a ticket.

This was my thought also. If Dilfer won a second SB would he be HOF material? If the defense and other offensive skill positions are good enough a QB manager might be all it takes. Eli was a slightly above average player with solid support on two good playoff runs and a whole lot of average and below play.
And those quoting his yardage and stats like it is meaningful discussion are ignoring the rules changes and emphasis of the game in this era compared to the past. If they play for any longevity, all of today's players will dwarf those from the past in QB statistics.
Eli Manning was a good quarterback, but far from one of the best ever in the NFL. All that said, I do think he will be admitted to the HOF due to his family pedigree, played in NY, and how those who were not on a great team (their fault or not) are vilified.
A quarterback who won two Superbowls cannot be denied a place in the HOF unless he was a Caretaker quarterback like Trent Dilfer. And yes Eli was below average for many years but the 2 superbowls make up for it. Ask any fan
This shouldn't even be a discussion. Not only winning 2 SBs, but being the MVP in both and on top of that, beating arguably the best team of all time in the 2007-08 Patriots after losing to them in the regular season, he is absolutely a HoFer. He will forever be compared to Peyton, who threw to much better receivers for his whole career, and that shouldn't count against him.

I keep hearing every expert say he's a lock. My first instinct was, "That's crazy. He's not that good. A career .500 QB." But then I've spent some time on it, read posts like yours and now think he'll get in.
But should he get in is the real question?
Is he one of the greatest quarterbacks ever? I'd say, "Most definitely not."
But if we are going to acknowledge the outsized role that the QB has on the game, then the two SB wins are huge. Like he certainly due to the position he plays had way more impact on two teams winning a super bowl than tons of hall of famers at other positions.
Plus take a look at the other QBs in the Hall. Seeing those names, I guess the pundits are right - he's definitely getting in. Joe Namath is in with a 64-64-2 career record as a starter so clearly with the NY bias Eli is in as well.

Eli was never among the top 5 QBs on a year by year basis. However, those two playoff runs (playing 3 games each time to get to the SB) culminating in SB MVPs is HoF worthy. Once could be a fluke (see Flacco), but he did it twice, and gets bonus points for taking down the Pats.
If Kurt Warner (one win), Jim Kelly (0/4), Warren Moon (zero SBs) are in the HoF, then Eli belongs. Football HoF, much more so than the Baseball HoF, puts an emphasis on winning titles. If there is a debate, then a 2x winner gets the benefit of the doubt.

I was surprised, but his career stats are good enough to get him in. In addition to his career total yardage, his 84 passing rating is comparable to other QBs already in the HOF.
SB wins shouldn't really sway the decision. To win the SB, you also need a good defense and a good running game helps. Elway was a good QB throughout his career, but the Broncos had a terrible defense for the first 3 SBs and had no chance of winning. His last two years the Broncos had a great all around team and he finally won. Dan Marino was undeniably a great QB, but he was never on a team talented enough to win it all. His last year, Peyton Manning sucked, but the Broncos were good enough to win in spite of him.
What about his reliability? The pundits on ESPN recently pointed out that he played 16 years without missing a start. He has the record. That should count for something. Also it couldn't have been easy being Peyton's little brother. There is also the fact that he remained humble in the biggest market in the Country. Never 'a look at me attitude.' Yes, he deserves to be in. IMHO.
Gotta say no. He led the league in picks multiple times. Only a .500 winning percentage. Never one of the top QBs for any season he played.
But he played in NYC (Jersey) and does have those SB wins. I think his chances are 50-50 though I would never vote for him.
You don't get in the hall of fame for being humble, for being somebody's brother, or even for durability.

I fixed that quote for you. The NFL is all about the brand and furthering their profits. If they believe Eli Manning, choir boys, felons, cheaters, Kapernick or any other variety of performers can help them, they will promote them and if they can't, cast them aside. The HOF follows that lead.
If the posters on this thread and 4 of your equally informed buddies had one hour to talk about the collective best QBs of all-time in the NFL, would Eli Manning's name be mentioned even once?
My favorite argument is the, "if he didn't win those Super Bowls he wouldn't get in". But he did, and ultimately that is the goal of every NFL player. He'll get in for sure.
