The marathon majors for marathon is somewhat equivalent to diamond league track meets. Only a few of the top 10 show up at each one, they spread out and each get opportunities to win and get the most prize money per race. And then they all show up at the diamond league final because the prize money there is twice as much as the other ones.
If you want to see ALLL of the best race each other, you'll have to pay a bunch of money. Most majors pay around $100k or a little over to the winner, and then down to around 10th place will still receive a few thousand dollars. Boston goes the deepest at 15th place receiving $1k. To get ALL fast guys to show up, you'll have to advertise the winner to get $300k, 2nd like $200k, 3rd $125k and pay all the way down to 20th place still receiving $5k. Then all of the top 10 guys would show up, because 10th would still be making $50k from one race.[/quote]
I think they would need massive appearance money to get all of the top runners.
They would want a guaranteed income if they're going to put it on the line and possibly finish 15th or worse in one of their two races for the year.
