"Youtube Star" = talentless loser watched by other losers
He's a good dude and doesn't deserve this. He's not a professional runner and never professed to be.

How is 30k subscribers a youtube star in the first place?
Agreed. I am not clowning on him with this thread, like his channel's shoe reviews. That being said, it is a bit perplexing that he has not broken 3.

Never said he was a star. Dude has a job and a family. Youtube is just a enthusiastic hobby for him.
Bottom line, he wants attention for his running insights and he's getting it. Narcissists aren't automatically evil or harming others. No doubt he truly believes he's contributing a positive influence.
3:17 isnt that bad for normies? isnt he at/about 40 or so? sounds like BQ territory unless he's in his 30s in which case he's still doing alright.
To me, the news here isn't that this clown is slow. So am I. BFD. What I DO take away is that Nike has fired this guy. He said in the past he was sponsored by them. They paid him. He actually WAS a pro runner. Or vlogger, more accurately. I watched 2 of his videos total and picked that up. He bragged about it. Now he's wearing shoes he paid for?
Leave my man Kofuzi alone! We have a finally running channel on Youtube that gets very little hate. He is a working man, a family man, and overall seems like a great person. He shows humanity in his videos. Doesn't fluff up the videos too much and is not a negative nancy.
You want to talk crap about other running youtubers? Go ahead, Kofuzi is not the one you should be bashing. He is doing this for enjoyment. He is not whoring out like some of the of the other running youtubers.
He depicts candidly the successes and faliures of his running to the rest of the world. I think he understands that he is not an elite. That is not the point of his channel. He has a wide fanbase and creates overall great content. Don't lump him in with on the running youtube hate train badwagons of Sage Canaday, Seth James Demoor, and Zach Levet. It is completely unwarranted.
Never heard of him, and never would have if I'd never seen this thread. The OP is either him trying to scrap for a few more subscribed or some weirdo subscriber-hater who wants to see this guy get clowned by the LRBF rabble, who are good for that if nothing else. He may be a pleasant person when his face is on camera, that's not really proof of much else though I imagine he's a nice enough person if not painfully shy in the real world.
Funny enough, I was running with a similar type at Houston last year, a dude with a GoPro mounted atop his hat. Some fellow racer apparently cut him off at a water table and he reacted really aggressively to the poor guy who probably did it by accident. No, it wasn't me or I would have knocked his hat off his silly head. Oh sorry, 5'3" bro, we didn't realize we had a really big deal running with us today who can't be chill running in a pack in a huge race. Such a baby. He got dropped hard by the pack in the next 10k.
In the intention of making a positive contribution to be helpful, the subject of this thread could have really helped himself by not overdressing and not carrying a selfie stick the whole way. Get a friend on bike to film you if you want to produce content of your race and give yourself a better shot at your goal. Though something tells me the sub-3 wasn't the top priority for the day, unfortunately.
I agree. Kofuzi seems like a good guy and doesn’t deserve any hate. I enjoy many of his videos.
It seems like he tried low HR training for Houston and it didn’t work. Watching him train for Houston, it seemed like he was doing too many slow miles. Maybe that works for some runners but I’d have a hard time consistently running that slow.
I do wonder what he wasn’t wearing the Vaporfly or any Nike apparel. Seems strange since he named the Vaporfly Next his shoe of the year for 2019 and he wore Nike gear for his prior marathons. Seems like he’s intentionally trying not to wear anything Nike. There could be a story there.
Regardless, I hope to run into him in Boston.
Well said, dude. Kofuzi is as good as it gets when it comes to running Youtube channels for amateurs. He loves running, loves reviewing stuff and sharing it with the world, and doesn't stuff his videos with fluff or pretends to know more than he does. He's an honest guy with a passion, and his contributions are always positive.
Low HR training was always a bad idea, the very concept is flawed. He should've sticked with the kind of training that brought him his PR, and refine it, instead of the radical change in approach he did.
Maffetone is a waste of time. Let's hope he sees that now and goes back to training smart.
He did a video where he explained that he is taking an indefinite hiatus from wearing Nike apparel. He cited the Mary Cain story and the Alyson Felix pregnancy story as examples for the maltreatment of women athletes. Since he has two daughters, he took a moral position to not wear Nike running attire. For this reason, it made him feel uneasy wearing Nike clothing. Whether warranted or not, that is his decision, and I respect him for it.
Agree whole heartedly. Ko is a good guy and donates to a new runners charity each week. His videos are great and he isn’t doing any of this for the likes.
He was never sponsored by Nike but someone from Nike definitely took a liking to him and gave him free gear and shoes (which he’s completely open about).
As far as MAF is concerned the sample size for him is way too small. I’m not a full on proponent of it but I am of taking easy days easy.
Again LR tearing down people for no reason.
OP so he has a better life than you and may or may not be faster than you. Shame on you for trying to tear someone down for being more successful than you. Go watch Ben barrows make a stupid video making for of track Smith. That’s probably more your speed.
Chiming in to also defend kofuzi. One of the most real people on YouTube in general.
Kofuzi is a perfect example of how not everyone is capable or talented to run sub 3 hours with all the nutrition and training in the world.
Is kofuzi running Boston? Will they let him film during the race?
I haven't seen anything beyond his 3:17 result...but this guy ran 3:0x in 2019 and BQed, though it was a downhill qualifier. But still, he's a 3:05-3:09 guy legitimately.
How can the HADD training be so bad that he only ran 3:17? I could just run 7:00-7:30 pace every day for 12 weeks and run much closer to my PB than that. over 10min off of a PB...should be basically a training run.
if he jsut had a bad race or got sick....that's a whole diffeernt story. it's fine to have a bad race but if 3:17 was his actual fitness....that's weird
Kofuzi is real, authentic and doesn't have an agenda or something to sell. He doesn't profess to be elite and is humble sharing his running and strategies on a daily basis. He admits when he falls short and doesn't make excuses. He just goes out each day and puts in hard work, runs miles consistently. He'll get there eventually. I think it just will take more time. He was knocking on the door with a 3:01 I believe in a prior race. He can go sub-3.
Contrast that to your typical narcassistic running blogger like Jason Fitzgerald at Strength Running. Ran a 2:39 marathon once, many years ago, likely on some talent alone but nothing since and that was his peak. But now he runs a website trying to SELL you "the secret" with his limited time enrollment coaching courses acting like he is a god because he's "A 2:39 marathoner", sells injury courses, running form course you name it. Monetize baby. Helps supplement his trust fund and keeps gas in the range rover.

His camera fetish makes running faster than 7mins impossible. There needs to be a new designated ‘selfie stick’ class race with tempered expectations and free flowing Kleenex at the end.
