Starliper was not challenged after the first 400 or so winning by 5 seconds. I got her splits at 34/34/33.5/33.5/34. I was surprised at how little resistance Parks offered in this race. I think both Starliper and Tuohy could go a little faster right now if pushed. But it is still early, though even by the end of the season much faster than 2:45 might be tough. When Tuohy ran the 4:33.87 mile she was probably no slower than 2:49 at 1,000 as she went through 880 yards in a shade under 2:16 I think. I would like to see what Starliper could do in an event with the pros like Dr Sander where you get a fast even pace.
That seems to be Taryn's M.O. She appears to have a lot more intra-season variability in results than others, specifically not wowing anyone early and then coming on strong at the post-season meets. Not saying this is good or bad, just an observation. She may choose to train through early meets more than other girls, or maybe mentally she really gets herself motivated for the championship meets. My point is that I wouldn't read too much into Parks losing by 5 seconds to Starliper in this race. Definitely a good time by Marlee, but not necessarily a bad sign for Parks.
My guess is Starliper could easily go 9:0x in a pro 3k right now. I think she ran 9:20 on her own last year, and then subsequently ran 9:55(?) 2 mile against pros in indoor nationals, with a bit of a negative split, which I think is worth 9:12 or so for 3k.
