Hi LRC,
Does anyone here have good experience with fund raising for charity? I have been part of an organization for a while (on and off since 2011) and I really want to start fund raising for them. I haven't done any running charity work before, but I know it is a large part of running now (at least at major marathons). Given that I love to run and I am involved with this non-profit, it seems like a perfect fit. The only problem is that I have no clue what I am doing.
I don't really have any social media presence, but I am decent hobby jogger (68 half, 2:24 full - hoping to better that time this Sunday!). Maybe I can use that? Get people/companies to match winnings?
Any good ideas to for promoting a charity?
Some other thoughts I have:
- Talk to my local running store to see if they would help promote me/the organization in one of their races
- Try to get a social media presence started and promote there. Not even sure if I am willing to do this because this(if it counts) and strava are my only two platforms and starting now seems terrible. Would start a website though.
- Do the old "cents per mile run" and ask individuals/friends
- Help this organization do its own 5k/10k race to raise money. Chase me down and get a cash bonus ;)
I read a "verywellfit" article (among others) and found that immensely helpful, but still looking for more. Any advice is much appreciated.
