I outgrew a group of friends because their "humor" centered around compulsively repeating the same lines and quotes. This is common among left-brain-dominant folks, I find. Just listen to any podcast where the hosts like to yuck it up...it's all repetitive "jokes" like this. "Ha Ha that thing you just said has triggered my compulsion to repeat our joke! I forget what the joke was but it is important I REPEAT IT. This is the essence of my humor. Repeating."
The key to longevity of a running joke remaining funny is to not know when to use and when to not. Nothing ruins it like beating it to death or finding ways to force it.
