I'm sure this has been speculated on multiple times previously, but I'm wondering still. What's the second differential for spikes vs. trainers in 32 finishing times? .......Or really any other race. tks in advance.

32k? not a lot
Don't be a clown call it the 2 mile. Spikes help quite a bit. If you really are only comfortable racing in flats, you'll be ok but losing a bit each lap. I race on the track in racing flats, but I'm just a clown and I have a pair of nike spike flats to use this year.

Going by the vaporfly thread then if spike offer such a large advantage they should be banned....
The faster you go, the more the advantage. I would say, 10 seconds at 9 minutes but no advantage at 14 minutes.
Why would you call 3200 meters 2 miles? You realize those are different distances right?
This is a math problem and has been well studied. See this calculator.

Just call it the deuce.
If you need to kick someone down with 100 top go, they can be difference makers. If you believe you'll run faster in them, huge. Otherwise - not so much.
I have done research on the economy factor running in spikes and racing flats, and on a nice all-weather track there is no difference in running economy. Would people who feel spikes are advantageous prefer spikes in a road race (marathon for example)?
