I’m a new HS coach, and I have an athlete who has been dealing with a fairly bad case of shin splints for almost a year. He has now had 2 consecutive seasons de-railed by the issue, and after the first week of winter track his shins are aching once again. I know his frustration level is high, but beyond a very basic set of exercises (which haven’t really helped), I lack the expertise help much.
Any coaches out there have a routine, excercises, etc. that have helped kids with severe shin splints ? Obviously this is a common issue with this demographic, and this athlete was sub 17 as a sophomore but has had his development completely stumped by his shins.
