Ayn Rand is so gay.
Ayn Rand is so gay.
Ayn Rand "Jesus"??? Wouldn't that be offensive to her?
Is that the dude with the McNally guy that makes all the maps? I have used those things for years.
Since the thread assumes a connection between running and Ayn Rand maybe we should have the Objectivist Games? They could debate who "objectively" crossed the line first, which would depend on the premises they started with, and whether the course confirmed with "reality". No altruists would be eligible. They would be too concerned with the greater good, of shared enjoyment of sport, when there can only be one winner.
Samuel Johnson is purported to have said, "Your manuscript is both good and original, but the part that is original is not good, and the part that is good is not original." I love this statement, and I think it applies so many people, including Rand.
People portray her as ridiculous, but most of her libertarian philosophy has a pretty good pedigree from other, far more respected thinkers. The actual "objectivist" part of her philosophy is a little silly, but that's not actually what most people criticize her for.
My issue with Rand isn't so much her philosophy; it's how unreadably awful her novels are as works of literature.

Philosophical query — are rabbits altruists, sacrificing themselves for the greater good of a fast time, or capitalists, getting paid for their labor?
Difference between Tolkien fans and Rand fans—Tolkien fans know his work is fantasy. Rand fans think she was writing about planet Earth.

You have just exposed the flaw in objectivism; they can be both.
