Thanks for the update! Shannon I believe ran 4:01 leading the entire last lap, whereas many of those ahead of her on the list were running in the wake provided by Hassan in Doha. Huge upside for her 2019
**Every single woman in the final ran faster than Osika's 4:01.80 in at least one more race beyond Doha**. Osika's run, impressive particularly as a solo run, was tied 65th fastest individual outdoor mark of 2019.
Races where Doha Finalists went better than 4:01.80 other than Doha final:
Hassan - Monaco, Rabat, Zurich, Nanjing
Kipyegon - Prefontaine Classic
Tseguy - Rabat, Nanjing, Pre, Rome, Monaco, Doha (semi), Shanghai
Houlihan - Pre,
Muir - Rome, London, Pre, Doha (semi)
GDS - Zurich, London, Rabat, Doha (semi), Monaco, Rome
Chebet - London, Doha (semi)
Simpson - Rabat, Doha (semi), Rome
Arafi - Rabat, Shanghai, Monaco
Mageean - Monaco
Nanyondo - Rabat, Pre, London, Doha (semi), Monaco, Shanghai, Nanjing
Hiltz - Doha (semi)
Note that all the "Doha (semi)" was the same semi-final, led by Simpson. So in fact, every single finalist except for Mageean ran faster than 4:01.80 in at least one race not featuring Hassan last year (and to her credit she ran 4:01.21 en route to the mile in Monaco so still very respectable).
Regardless of any controversy surrounding Hassan, that final was arguably one of the most talented of all time. Would be a pity to demean that just for the sake of pumping up another athlete's tires.
