Regardless of if a coach can help or not they should at least have the courtesy to watch the races as best as they can. I know if I watch my athletes race then I can help with future strategy, training, how to direct the athlete in the future. There isn't an excuses to just not watch an athlete unless they are coaching a team and there is some type of emergency.
Maybe. But I think there's more going on here. When I raced I was focused on the race, my effort, where I was in the field, often hanging on for dear life, etc. I probably had no idea who was watching me and who wasn't as the race unfolded. To know specifically that a coach stopped watching the OP at a particular spot in the race seems odd. If the OP was complaining of the coach not being able to give splits afterward or not reviewing the race I'd say there's a problem. But if I'm going all out in a race how in heaven's name do I know my coach isn't watching me?
