I'm in bed now, but curiosity got the better of me so I'll reply and then that's it, lights out...
I've been coming to Kenya since 1990. I've lived here a few times and now I zip back and forth between here, the Uk, and Ireland. I ran a charity helping Kenyan runners (not the top guys like Canova and coach JS : ) ). The people I coach (US and Europe) donated money to support lower-level runners with a view to helping them. We paid for their accommodation, food, kit, travel expenses, education, etc. We've helped many runners (clean, I hasten to add). But in January 2019, AK introduced new rules about foreign coaches working in Kenya, so I stopped coaching Kenyan runners. Now, I bring my runners from the US and Europe over to Kenya and they stay in my camp here. We pay some Kenya runners to work as guides and pacers for my runners. we're helping (in a small way).
But I've also been working as a journo for many years (I will expand on this next week - there's a reason for holding back). But for now, to put your mind at ease: I'm a fan. I believe that the Kenyans (Kalenjin) are genetically gifted and are the best runners on the planet. It's good that many are getting busted. Yes, it looks bad from a PR POV but it's good news. In time, over the next year or so, the sport will clean up a lot, and Kenya will rise again. But for now, the cheats need to go. And the cheats around the globe will follow very soon.
So, stay cool and embrace the humiliation. Some time a little pain bring s great joy...
Now, night night for real.
