Time to revive this thread.
I've been MIA, popping in and out every six months in this thread...
got hurt last fall during xc season and didn't really get healthy until February. did a mix of cycling and running through the end of May, at which point I was at around 70 mpw running and 100-130mpw cycling. I had 8 weeks off of work due to the virus but went back to work at the end of May and basically quit cycling at that point.
I've had a pretty good stretch since then. I've run more miles each week every single week since February, just adding a few miles each week. Some weeks I add just one mile, but I've kept the momentum going and hit 90 and 91 the last two weeks.
Like many I've gotten into the Time Trial game. My local club has organized a series of unofficial TTs on XC courses. We do staggered starts, one person starting every 20 seconds or so. First one was June 6th, did a 5k road TT June 13th, another xc meet June 20th, then waiting until July 18th for the 4th race. Last one is tomorrow morning. The races are all ~6k on varied courses, all dirt or singletrack. Times were 20:25, road 5k in 15:55ish, 21:00, 20:40.
You can't really convert those marks to road/track marks except the road 5k (actually 15:43 on short course) but I am hoping to run 19:30ish for the last race tomorrow, which will be the easiest course. I think I'm in about 15:30-15:35 5k shape.
As this a marathon thread...I obviously have plans to take a stab at time trialling a marathon this fall. Not sure when that may be, but probably around the time that CIM usually runs. Might work the weekend before Thanksgiving.
As for training, I've taken this week as my first down week since February, will race tomorrow, and will take next week easy as well. Then it'll be back to 80+ mpw.
I haven't really done too many workouts worth mentioning. Just doing one workout per week, plus all those races. Paced some friends to a 16:30 5k at one point which felt like 10k pace. I've mostly done workouts pacing people, so not really testing my thresholds or anything. I've kind of considered this as a pre-season.
Anybody else planning any TTs?
my race schedule is basically doing a TT every 2 weeks, from events from 800m to maybe 30k, and then the marathon. The only TTs I'll be really caring about are ones where a PB is possible, like 10mi, 10k, 1mi.
