Happy New Year. Tipping an upset among the men. Deme Tadu Abate is 22yo and ranked 69. Ran both Hamburg and Amsterdam both the last two years with differing results, more soon.
This guy could be a scratching as well. Shame.

Next woman may be a debutant, Hawi Feysa, 20yo and ranked 11 as a 5000 track runner. One and only road result was 2017: 50.09 for 4th over 15k at Le Puy-en-Velay. Was 8th in the w/champs 5000 final.

Note the List will grow. This is NOT the entire Elite List.
Yep, Elite field not up to the usual standards. As a side (useless) note I've always found Deksisa to look rather scary ;-)
Next to complete the course might be Aychew Bantie, 24yo and ranked 27. PB of 2.06.23 was created last May when third in Prague. Since then won at Hengshui Lake in 2.08.51. The previous year was second in Kosice in 2.08.15.
Fifth lady could be Bedatu Hirpa, 20yo and ranked 51. PB of 2.21.32 set at Frankfurt 2018 when third. Fifth in Tokyo last March in 2.23.43 then disappointing when returning to Frankfurt, coming 14th after being fifth at 35k.
Sixth finisher in his debut may be Eric Kiptanui, 29yo and ranked 107 as a road runner. Disappointing ninth in the Delhi half alter impressive pacing duties at the INEOS event. PB at the half is from Berlin 2018: winning in 58.42.

Second woman should be Alemu Megertu, born 97 and ranked 34. Breakthrough in April with win in Rome in 2.22.52, taking 5.16 off her prev. best. Then amazing fourth in the Copenhagen half in 66.43 without any previous form at that distance. In October, second in Frankfurt in 2.21.10. At halfway that day, was in a peloton of five in 69.25 chasing Jemeli, already 1.43 behind.
Next woman should be Dibabe Kuma, 23yo and ranked 80. Won Hamburg on the same day as the London marathon last year in 2.24.41. Was going to run Toronto but didn’t. Best time in Ljubljana 2018 when third in 2.23.34. Won Kolkata 25k in 2018 in 1.27.34.
Next to complete the course could be Yitayal Atnafu Zerihun, turning 27 before this event and ranked 102. Does well on the streets of Paris, last year seventh in 2.08.31. 2018 was his PB there: fourth in 2.07.00 and the previous year was fourth as well, in 2.07.21.
Seventh among the ladies may be Tigist Abayechew, 25yo and ranked 101. Was second last November in Istanbul in 2.24.15, 5.56 off her prev best and only 35 sec behind Hirut Tibebu.
Eighth man might be Birhanu Bekele Berga, 38yo and ranked 87. PB of 2.06.41 in his third in Seville last Feb. Previous best was a decade before.
There is another sub 2.20 runner, but it was maybe seven years ago.

That is Bizunesh Deba, 32yo. Has a rich history at the majors: seconds at New York twice, 2013 and 2011, the latter in 2.23.19. PB was at Boston 2014, second in a sec under 2.20. Also third Boston in 2015 in 2.25.09. Best time since all those was 2017 Boston: 7th in 2.30.58. Would have to pull a performance out of her hat to finish any higher than 8th here.
Ninth to finish might be Aweke Ayalew, 26yo and ranked 95. Debut in Oct at Frankfurt: third in 2.07.12.
Ninth woman may be Yenenesh Tilahun, 25yo and ranked 136. Third in Seville in February in 2.25.54.
More on Aychew Bantie, his background, training and future goals , he was featured on nnrunningteam.com
