I know it's a long shot, but Nico definitely has the aerobic strength to be able to run 13:37.

He would have to pick a solid pro/college race.
Yes he can!
I hope so.
Records are meant to be broken.
He would have to run 13:08 or faster for 3-miles. I don't think so.
I doubt it. Ritz and Lindgren both ran 13:44 in ideal pro races.
Rupp had roughly 4 flat speed. I think you would need some absurd endurance and more speed than Nico has to do it. His 8:40 was paced.
Rupp is better than Young.
Hopefully Arcadia has a 5000 instead of a 2 mile for the elite high school runners, then he can probably get the record

At his level, everyone has aerobic strength. To have a shot, he needs to be capable of 4:00/8:30.
Racing the Stanford Invite in April or the Payton Jordan "B" race in May would offer him the best opportunities for a 5k pr.
By the way, USATF xc nationals is in San Diego on Jan 18th. Maybe he still has more xc in his blood.

Not in XC. Track, we will find out.

I think he is capable of 8:30-8:45.
4:00 might be a stretch but he ran 3:48 last year early in the season, wouldn't be shocked if he was in the 3:59-4:01 range in a later-season race.

Because Rupp lost at Footlocker?? Mmmmm no, I don’t think so.
We’ll (much) more than likely watch him fall short in both disciplines, not that anyone wants that but them’s the facts, Jack.
If Young falls short as a senior there are plenty of other Rupp accomplishments to chase as a freshman like 28:25, 7:49, etc. if that’s what he wants as opposed to a bunch of dorks speculating online.

Not a chance at Arcadia. Unless he runs 5000 and the rest of the field runs 2 miles and can pace him. He needs a big race where the winner runs 13:20. He can sit tight in the mid to back of the pack and slowly pick guys off to have a chance.
I believe Young ran the first mile in 4:22 at Arcadia. He would have to run the entire 5k at that pace. HS Rupp would have beaten Young at NXN.

Nico and Rupp are very similar and I can see Nico running 13:30-13:35 in a pro race.
Is Nico Young related to Robert Young?
