You just made reductionism sound sensical. Not falling for it. It is a philosophy, not sense.
Hopefully you had bias here and don’t actually agree with what you said.
I love this line, “the world is obese, people are dying...because they eat the wrong foods and it has nothing to do with eating animals.”
Ha! Literally over 17 million people died last year due to saturated fat and cholesterol.
Not cake. Not alcohol.
First, 17 million did not die solely from saturated fat and cholesterol.
-Cholesterol actually repairs your arterial walls). When they get damaged from tobacco, constant high blood sugar, high blood sugar, etc. cholesterol comes and “patches” up the artery walls. (Research this). That cholesterol and plaque then builds up-creating an area in the artery that is now more narrow. Then when a blood clot happens, it can’t get through the narrow section of the artery and that results in a heart attack or stroke depending on if the artery supplies blood to the heart or brain. So, yes, cholesterol is involved BUT a huge factor is high blood sugar, high blood pressure, and tobacco (but we all know smoking is bad). So eating cake, and other sugary foods arguably plays a larger role in heart attacks and general cardiovascular disease. In your sugary cake, if you substitute the butter for margarine (which often uses hydrogenated oil ‘trans fat’ then you’re definitely worse off.)
2nd- Dietary cholesterol really doesn’t haven’t much impact on total cholesterol levels. There’s many studies on this-and studies about people who eat ridiculous amounts of eggs (20 a day) and have great cholesterol levels. (again, research this... by research I mean look at all the studies and analyze which conclusion is most likely—don’t simply find one/two conflicting study and come back saying that I’m wrong...concluding the research is inconclusive is fine too-in fact, we should do more of that instead of being so bold with claims.. I’m including myself in ‘we’). Anyways, Cholesterol is definitely influenced by diet in general, but not solely by the specific amount of cholesterol you consume. Your body synthesis more cholesterol than you eat anyways.
Lastly- This really shouldn't be a debate. We can’t ‘prove’ anything, but c’mon, We all inherently know what the *most probable* best diet is: A largely plant-based diet with minimally processed ‘whole foods’, little added sugars/oils, little-to no alcohol, no tobacco, AND small to moderate amount of animal products that are minimally processed (no processed deli-meats, hot dogs, sausage, *most* bacon, etc). But chicken, beef, fish, etc. eggs contain nutrients plants don’t have (because the animals synthesize the nutrients) and outside of inhumane or drug-pumped growing procedures, there’s not much downside to eating animal products (dairy is more debatable though as many people have allergies). Just don’t ruin your meet by eating it ‘well-done’. Carcinogens (cancer-causing chemicals) are produced from cooking/burning meat at high-heat. So don’t char the heck out of your meat-just cook it enough to kill any pathogens.
It’s pretty simple. If most people were honest, they would say they inherently know a diet like this is best. These arguments, documentaries, articles etc are kinda ridiculous- However, I suppose they are useful in helping us think about better animal-farming processes and getting people to actually eat some real fruits and vegetables- so not all is lost.
