I'm a guy, 9:18 3200 runner and was offered a partial scholarship to run at UMD. Should I even consider it? They have no Xc or guys indoor program

If you live in MD, probably your cheapest option. Decent school but running will just be a hobby.
Do you not have any ambition to run XC or indoor? Or will you just run unattached (and I think with no coaching, since they don't have teams). That would be a no go to me, unless you wanted to go to UMD for completely non-running reasons, in which case the scholarship is a bonus.

The University of Maryland - Baltimore County is a better option. Better academics, better coaching, better distance program and you can run all 3 seasons.
They will probably give you a bigger scholarship than Maryland too.

UMBC is definitely a good school, but to say it has better academics is not even close to the truth. By your screen name, you are obviously biased since UMD gets all the attention and you feel left out.

UMBC is an honors college. It has some of the best sciences in the nation and is consistently ranked as one of the most innovative schools in the country. It was ranked as one of the top up-and coming schools in the nation for 4 or 5 years straight. Undergrad teaching is consistently ranked in the top 20 in the nation.
It isn't ranked as high overall because they have a high minority population (the president is a civil rights leader) and the dropout rate, flunk out rate, and % of students who graduate in 4 years is lower. Those stats are important in determining rank according to forbes, princeton review, and other lists.
You can go to UMBC if want to graduate with not improving or hardly improving at all.

They had an All-American in cross country a few years ago and an All American in the 800 a couple years before that. In 2013 they were 9th in the Mid-Atlantic Region, in 2014 they were 7th, and in 2015 they were 9th. That's damn good for having very limited scholarship money in a deep region.

You are cherry picking! They have had a few random good years, but with the amount of talent they bring in and have every year they should be a lot better than they are. There are a ton of programs out there that would be amazing if they got the same talent and actually developed it. And we all know that the mid Atlantic region drops off a cliff after 5th on the men's side. They did have a few good years, but that really seems to all be in the past.
Mid-Atlantic Region
2019: 23 of 25
2018: no team score
2017: 19 of 25
2016: no team score
2015: 9 of 25
2014: 7 of 23
2013: 9 of 26
2012: 14 of 25
What talent? They primarily get mediocre in-state runners.
1000% yes!! There’s a couple distance guys on the team (I walked on this fall) and we’re definitely rebuilding. It’s not gonna be your traditional p5 distance team experience but umd is a historic powerhouse and there’s a lot of people in our corner wanting to build the program(peep the brand new track facility in the works). I race unattached xc meets and road races in the fall then although indoors is not an official program we still compete as a team indoors just no post season. Definitely consider it! If you want to ask me questions about let me know and I’ll try and think of a way you can reach out to me.
If you care about running at all don't go to UMBC
