Clinger has a lot of fitness to make up in the next 11 months. But he's 3 years older than Nico. Who will be better next year?

Clinger, and baby-face assassin Mantz , will both beat him.
Garnica and Shumway should be lower sticks as well.
Eyestone the Magician will figure it out.
Probably the guy who graduated high school years ago.

It's pretty tough for some of these guys to get back. Sometimes it takes a couple years. If he matches his success as a freshman he will be very fortunate. But every once in a blue moon they'll get someone that bounces right back without missing a beat.

Yeah their roster next year is loaded full of all Americans with Mantz, Clinger, Shumway and Owens. We'll see how Garnica and Jacklin develop during track. Garnica could be really good. Also McKay Johns and Will Handley are wild cards. Either of them could easily be top 40 next year.
He's going to be top 10, there have been worse kids who got top frosh so I don't see why not

Nico is good, but top 10 is a stretch. That would be very impressive. Grant Fisher got 16th I believe as a true freshman, and he was dominant for years in high school. He was the undisputed best in the country for his Jr and Sr year.
Cheserek I think is totally different. He was a generational talent, which I don't believe Nico is. He's more on Fischer's level. I'd be shocked if he did anything close to what Cheserek did as a freshman especially with how competitive the NCAA is right now.
Nico might have to fill the leadership void they seem to have since Baxter departed. Battlefield promotion to General.
Curious as to why the twin brother of Garnica went to Utah State. Too hard to crack the BYU travel squad?

Jacob just isn't as talented as Brandon. He's a much better fit at Utah State. I'm sure he could have walked on at BYU, but he wouldn't ever have a shot at contributing. At Utah State he can be a leader and a core part of their travel team.

Caleb not Jacob. Brain fart.

Nico was faster than Clinger was in HS and hasn't taken two years off to get fat while telling people how they should listen to some dude who found a couple hundred pound gold plates in the middle of the forest that only he could read.
Yeah, those two years off really slowed down Conner Mantz.
I give Nico young a mild shot at All-American as a freshman in Cross Country. Let's be honest very rarely does a high schooler crack the top 40 first time out.
Liam Anderson ran 14:57 at NXN in 2018. Young only ran a few seconds faster than him in 2019 (14:52).
How did Anderson do this year at NCAA XC?

That’s not true at all. Drew Hunter made Grant look soft at the Brooks PR 2 mile in high school.
He did pretty well a DNS which probably saved him a couple of should of, could of, would of been top 40 but.... DJ Principe had a good run though at least he beat someone.
Is it legal to do a mission trip for non-LDS religions? Honestly, as a former D1, I’d consider doing it again by racing for a year, doing a two year mission to high altitude to train and get older (saving some heathens of course) and returning to competition with three years of eligibility. Doing online classes, I could get a Master’s by the time my eligibility was up (I got it anyways).
I was so much better as a runner at age 25 than at 23, I could have improved 50 places at NCAAs simply through maturity.

Maybe? The way you explain it tho, probably not. It wouldn’t be comparable to the missions Mormons go on. When I went on mine, I only got ~8 days of running in the entire 2 years. I came back losing to our top girls for a good 3 months.

Liam Anderson
1:57.02 - 800
4:08.96 - 1600
8:51.89 - 3200
Casey Clinger
0:50.04 - 400
1:53.06 - 800
4:02.90 - Mile
8:44.70 - 3200
Nico Young
4:08.82 - Mile
8:40.00 - 3200
Young didn't run the 800 last season and only ran the mile or 1600 one time in a big meet. Already as a junior he was ahead of Anderson in the speed department. That gap is likely to grow this track season, as Young will probably end up with a mile time around what Clinger did his senior year, yet 10-20 seconds ahead of what Clinger did in the 3200.
Young could lose to several freshmen next year. It is hard to know what happens at 10k. I predict Young will finish 35th.
