He was NCAA runnerup 2018 outdoors and 2019 indoors but didn't even make it out of NCAA regionals outdoors as he was injured but rebounded and got 7th at Worlds.

I saw this coming for awhile. I train in Alberta and heard a lot of rumors for the huge money (for track anyways) that he was constantly turning down. It ended up being a lot of brown envelopes under the table to his club coach. I wouldn't be surprised if the rumors of him getting six figure sponsorship offers were true. A person that can make the WC final their first global championship doesn't need to waste their time in NCAA. He can sit on 100k+/yr with likely huge bonus potential for making the OG final and being an outside medal threat. Likely can transfer his education back to Canada or another school close to a pro team. It was a smart decision and I wish him a good career
I had a good talk with this young man in the airport when connecting on the flights back from Doha. Very humble and had a good head on his shoulders. If he stays healthy then he'll carve out a nice career in the sport.
Canada has 2 Good 800 Runners Currently With Arop and McBride.

His coach left over the summer as well. Patrick McGregor is the new coach. He is a big step down.
Not sure why Rojo didn't make topic about Anderson Peters going pro, he was actually world champion from Miss St.
Big mystery- he didn’t make his grades and was not going to be eligible. Nobody goes pro this time of year.
They actually have 3 really talented 800m runners. The high schooler and Wisconsin commit, Abdullahi Hassan ran 1:47 as a junior in high school this past year at canadian nationals and only finished a second behind Arop. Be on the lookout for him as he can get really close to the Olympic standard (as a senior in high school still)
ROBERT HEPPENSTALL 1:46 is still "in the running"

Moving up to 1500 might be the better option (although currently injured I understand) as joining a pro group might require that transition given the current and future depth in the Canadian 800. Could be worse though, like trying to make the US team at 800! ( 3 world finalists).
Still has NCAA outdoor eligibility, but don't think he returned to Wake for his redshirt year. Made seven NCAA 800m finals (indoors and outdoors) until getting injured last spring.
