Okay at one time back in the days of cinder and grass tracks I was the fastest in my household. Now that is not the case. So who is the fastest in your house? and who ranks better in the races?

I've been running 30+ years; she's been running 3+. Last year I was seven seconds faster over 1500m. Due to a fanatical training effort on my part, I will hold her off for one more year, despite nearly-fanatical training on her part. And we will both celebrate when we finish the season with lifetime PR's. From that point on I will give her a nice pat on the butt as she leaves me in her dust for good...
I will probably always be able to outrun my wife (a handy talent on the infrequent occasion when I pi** her off), but I predict a few years from now my kid will outrun me over shorter distances.
Usually, I can handle whatever she's got, but about 7mos ago, I wasn't too fit (or at least that's my excuse). We went on an "easy" 8 (which was ungodly far for me at the time). She talked the entire time, but at around mile 5 I could no longer even pretent to be listening... all I could think was "c'mon J, you can make it... c'mon... hang in there.. she's getting tired...etc etc." Upon finishing, I spent a good 5 minutes hunched over deciding whether to hurl or not.
She could care less about being good competitively, but she does continue running post-collegiately just for fitness. So, she's ALWAYS pretty fit, while I have been all over the place (except for as fit as I want to be, of course).
At least you could hang with her. We start together and she waits for me to tell me "you're doing great" as I struggle up another hill. When we meet i would finish my intervals then go do her hard run that night. Now I try to run her amarthon pace for 5K.
I'm 10 years older than my wife, which is really an attempt at an excuse when there is none needed. She began to train very seriously last year and set PR's at mile, 5km, 10km, half and marathon and is one of the top master's in the country. After training pretty hard for over 35 years, I just don't have the ambition nor the desire. She kicks my sorry ass pretty good whenever we go out for a run together. With four boys between the ages of 6 and 9, life is hectic to say the least, but we actually get a sitter (when the boys are calm enough) just so we can run together. These moments are worth more than all the trophies and prizes won.
Once my husband was severly out-of-condition due to an extensive injury, but insisted he could still beat me at a local small 5k race. The loser would have to walk to the frozen yogurt shop for one week and buy the winner a yogurt and ask the person behind the counter to put it into the winner's mug (awards for the 5k)
I was so sure I could beat him, and he ran the whole way, about 100 yards in front of me. Nearing the end, he was hurting so bad, I was gaining on him and he was looking back every 20 yards to see if I was coming. The only reason I didn't beat him was because I was laughing so hard at the scared look on his face.
I had to go to that damn yogurt shop for a week and it was embarrasing to ask them to put the yogurt in the "red-white-blue" mug.
my wife (soon to be Ex but we're still good friends) doesn't run or train at all yet she can wake up any day and decide to run a 5k race for charity and run about 24 min. without any training. Her resting heat rate is in the low 40's and I know if she had applied herself she would have been a serious competitor... I on the other hand would easily beat her but I have to train 6 days a week and watch what I eat etc. etc.
Ray, Your storey is like mine. Running was the common ground with my wife and I. In '81 I won an age group 10K in california 3rd overall and that trophy is 1 of thre I keep. She decided she needed that trophy, so off we went from Colorado to California. This was her first race after knee surgury and breaking her back and about 2 months of 'training' no intervals. Ofcourse she won overall and was first master but I got the last laugh when she went up to get the trophy. It had changed just that year so I am still the only one with the 'hog'.
My wife ran some good times during her mid-late 20s (high 34s for 10k), and her goal was to beat me in race to make me cry. Once at a little podunk 10k race in Nevada, I said just run through this one. Turns out on the return trip she saw that she was holding her ground against me, and picked it up and finished barely a minute behind. This was on a hilly course at 6,700'; the effort was probably in the 34s. Years later, as a masters runner, I have found her 20-something times fairly tough to match.
Wow dude....She runs circles around you huh?

Same here as my wife runs about 32 for the 5K. However, I wasn't expecting my smart-ass 13-year-old to run a 5:01 1600 to open his season. I seriously doubt I can do that right now.
DougM,
That's a great time for a 13 year old - boy I'm assuming?
My wife is no longer a runner, and when she was, she was not competitive. She used to do the 3-5 mile daily runs in her 20s, but she had some knee problems, never really liked running all that much, and now does areobics instead, so for now I will be the fastest. My 2 1/2 year old son loves to run though, and he commonly runs the 1/2 mile loop around our neighborhood when we go for a walk. You'd think that he would have some sort of talent for it, but I guess you never know until he gets older. I'm hopeful, but I'll never push him into it.
my husband and I both run. We always run together, at the same pace. I've run a lot more in life than he ever has...but he's 6'4 (i'm 5'4) so its easy for his inexperienced self to keep up with me.
i love running with him. we get to talk, run (which I love to do!) and laugh at all the wierdos that we pass.
not to mention, running always puts me in a good mood...which can lead to better things later :)
If I were your husband, I'd make sure to run daily.
For the health benefits, of course.
so far the boy is but he's got the look of fear in his eye, I'm keeping him motivated!
you would think he would....but I often have to drag him out there!!!

This is a good reason not to marry a runner!
You should be glad a wonderful woman like your wife would have anything to do with you ;)
Circles triangles squares yeah she kicks my ass. And I am lucky she puts up with my old ass.
