Good point. FL does not offer golden tickets, even to the fastest hs mile-5000m track runner in the nation.

Are you two aware that she ran a 21:20 for 4 miles in Central Park in May? According to McMillan, a 21:50 4 miler is equivalent to 16:48 for 5000. So basically she's in the same shape she was in May. She was decently fit then and decently fit now.
Did she run 21:20 or 21:50?
Footage is up now...
What a difference a week makes for Tuohy. She looks like her old self and totally relaxed (even laughing and pointing at someone in the crowd early). She got outkicked by Cuffe but she was looking very strong at the end. Course was pretty muddy.
But what will 2015 bring? wrote:
Yes, but wrote:

Yes, that is something many of us are aware of
Was the 15.45 Cain did on a track or in muddy, wet XC conditions (as per today)? No question Cain isn't at her best yet, but she is maybe getting there. In terms of the rest - whether she can: i. get through the awkward 'change of body' phase, ii. get her speed back and iii. whether her mental toughness is there to return to world class action - these are other questions all together. I certainly hope she can pull it together. Probably not, but - guess what - it is just running; it lasts only whilst you are young, and there are far more important things in life.
Tuohy is, of course, simply incredible for her age. She also seems to have a very good head on her shoulders - an excellent sign.
For either - I just hope they get their education, pursue a career and don't waste too much time trying to compete with the Africans (who have undoubtably superior talent and enormous talent pool, but also a lot more EPO to hand..).

USA! USA! USA!
I dont know a lot about Cain's racing history when she was fast. Was she really racing well against the world, or just run fast times against americans? I don't recall .... and I don't mean junior worlds stuff, im sure she did well in that stuff.

Guy's a 6K is 6 kilometers
Or 6000 m. So just think of either a meter and then multiply that by 6,000 or a kilometer and then multiply that by 6. I don't know just imagine if you walk to half a kilometer and then you did that 12 times.

Post wins.
a good result but your being a little generous with the term pro for this field
give it 5 minutes and we will hear that Dudek and Starliper would have finished just ahead of Cuffe...yeah not a pure pro or NCAA field, but a strong field including some pros. I would have guessed top 10, but 2nd at 5:25 pace is a nice result.

2) Can we stop with the Dudek would have done this crap, or Tuohy would have done that.....Dudek had a great race today and fully deserves all the credit and accolades wth winning a highly competitive race. And Tuohy does nothing but continue to impress. That is a fantastic result for this race!! Making ridiculous speculations does nothing but take away from their accomplishments.
second, people perform differently on different days with different conditions. I feel like that's not that hard to grasp. By your logic, I could say "And Tuohy who barely beat Ewert would have destroyed Dudek?"
That's not fair to any of these athletes and I think that all of them did their best and had great performances in the past week. There are a lot of factors in every athlete's performance that you can't gauge from behind a keyboard. They're teenage girls, after all, not machines.

This has to be post of the month; made me laugh out loud!
So was Tuohy ever beat in XC in her high school career until Cuffe just did so? If so that is just a ridiculously epic career.
Not in XC in 10th, 11th, 12th grade. Lost the Millrose mile as a sophomore - just a bad day.
In June 2011 Mary crushed Aisling Cuffe in the 1500 at the NY state championships. Mary was a freshman. I believe Cuffe was a senior.
Watch the video from about 3:40. Cuffe is in second place.

Easier way, switch your GPS watch to metric. You'll get it in no time.
Hard to tell--Ewert pushed Touhy to the wire last week but struggled this week. Others, like Starliper are stronger on San Diego course compared with Portland. In terms of speed ratings--the top two at Footlocker ran similar to Touhy's best effort While club nationals is pro, the real big guns, e.g. Sisson, Huddle, Simpson, Hasay etc. seem to avoid it. Overall, the men's field was more loaded with several former Kenyan runners, e.g. Hilary Bor,

+1
When did a park run (5kish) become “crazy” just because you raced the weekend before? Doing a cross country race at that distance every week is not a big deal. (We also have no idea what actual effort she put in the race). But, if a 6k race is going to destroy an American runner they can not hold up much hope for competing internationally.
I saw the race--some woman was well ahead of both Cuffe and Touhy but then seemed to blow up during the last half mile.
Dudek deserves more recognition. She ran 5th in the European Junior Champs last week for Poland and came back to win Foot Locker. Like Touhy, whe is undefeated this season and has achieved similar speed ratings. On any given day, she is probably closest to Touhy in fitness--though she is running a breakthrough year--never being close to this level as an underclassman.
