Haha sorry your state doesn’t want to run in the national championship, but it’s doing great!
For real. Loved watching this race. Love that it’s individuals only. Prefer it much more over NXN.
I much prefer Foot locker. I was there today and will continue to come!
NXN has created an even bigger team motivating spirit for cross country runners. Having the motivation to make it as a team brings the athletes together, makes leadership skills important, and puts emphasis on making everyone achieve their max potential. I prefer NXN, but don’t like not having all the top runners in one race.
I loved the coverage. Obviously, it's easier to cover a 5K than a marathon, but it was still such a refreshing change to watch an event and not come away disappointed because the coverage was so dreadful. Thumbs up to foot locker for not only putting on a great race but also making it possible for people to watch it!

NE upset
Was very close between NE and MW on the boys side. Crazy considering NE was dead last a year ago.
At least the tool was useful to the discussion.

Ditto
NXN caters to participation reward mentality with focus on teams
Don't know if anybody will be looking at this thread anymore but have a general question that most of you can answer. I have pretty much always run on the road as far as racing goes. This was true when I was 14 and is in middle age also. I didn't own a spiked shoe in high school nor now. So I'm watching some of the footage and have a hard time seeing what is on the runner's feet. I assume they're spikes of some sort but. Do some some wear flats? It may be more obvious to me if I was familiar with popular cross-country shoes but for me it's impossible to tell. How long of spikes does one generally wear for a course of this sort. I was thinking half inch but I'm guessing and am curious. Last part: do all high school runners wear Nike? I know this was the case in the recent past (recent from my perspective, but maybe a couple generations ago was last I saw...) but it really is hard for me to tell at a glance without being super-familiar with their current models. Anyway, thanks for satisfying my curiosity, anybody who participates or follows this kind of thing closely. Just wondering.....

Holy cow! Dudek is a special talent. She would've destroyed tuohy at NXN. 16:45 on that course? that's insane. Great race from starliper as well.
Ewert who almost beat Tuohy the previous weekend finished in 6th, in a slightly better time over the tougher FL course, i.e. steeper hills and more turns, so Tuohy would have been no better than 5th, probably worse. Typically the better runners who do both races just use the team event as a tune up for the Footlocker finals, which is a good strategy. There have been many examples through the years, in this case Starpiper, Hart, and Methner.

This is absurd logic. Do better.
Yeah Starliper getting helped off after nxn sure looked like a tuneup. LOL. And the idea that the FL course was tougher is insane. NXN was a swamp by the time the boys chewed up the course. FL actually looked like a hard dirt track.

LOL. This is the biggest load of crap I ever read. Starliper fell across the line at NXN. No offense to Hart, but she just didn’t look good. Methner couldn’t respond to Nico’s early move. None of these kids are going to a National Championship to tune up for another one.
Ewert and Starliper (whose performances were both admirable) prove you CANNOT compare runners on different days and different courses. Who knows if Dudek could have performed well in pouring rain and on a rough course. Who knows if Tuohy would have performed well in San Diego weather on a hilly course.
The point is we will never know, so stop coming up with asinine predictions on what would have happened. If anything, your prediction is ridiculous. Tuohy blew out Hutchins (5th today) earlier in the season.
Very few had Dudek winning FL after the double. Very few had Ewert second at NXN. People had Tuohy blowing out the field (me included). People had her losing. Almost no one had her winning on a sprint. It was a great, competitive year for girls HS XC and leave it at that.
What happened to Taryn Parks today?
Looks like LRC started their race of the decade tournament just a little too early. That battle the last 800m was fantastic.

Yea, you prefer it because you live close enough to attend it. Nice try.
Methner and Ewert ran the same times at Footlocker and NXN. Overall, the courses seemed to run about the same in terms of times. Insert Young and he breaks 15 for the win. Tuohy fans would expect the same to be true but it is not since 3 girls broke 17. Also, Methner was more than 2 minutes ahead of Tuohy last week. I have never seen girls this close to guys at a national level. If you insert Tuohy, she is way out contention for the win.

That is nice speculation but that is all that it is. Tuohy had a bad race at NXN. If she was at FL and had a bad race yes she would have lost. But Hart had a real bad race at NXN, and ran 90 seconds faster at FL to get 4th. Tatum David and Riley Stewart both ran around 20 seconds faster at FL than they did at NXN. Please explain that.
As far as girls being close to guys at a National level - Tuohy herself has been within 1:40 of the boys at NXN several times. The girls got the short end of things at NXN this year being the second race and the results show it.
Man you guys must have fun living in a magical world

But back on Earth where we have to actually try to figure out what's going on
Taylor ewert gave a huge effort at nxn and was worn out and ran a good bit slower at Foot Locker
Starliper and Hart obviously didn't kill themselves at nxn and were able to bounce back strong
Katelyn Tuohy clearly just had a bad day and looked really strong beating a bunch of Pros who have 1510 PR at 5 K
Speed ratings are really accurate. If Tuohy ran a 170 a couple of weeks ago with no competition she's certainly capable of 173 174 Max
Dudek and starliper gave it their all and maxed out at 169
Tuohy averaged 165 this year starliper and Dudek 160
Not to mention Starliper ran 17:35 at NXN and 16:46 at FL. The idea that people are trying to compare times in these races is silly. NXN was a mud bath.
