https://www.paturnpike.com/toll/accidentally_exited_ezpass_lane.aspxIt says in the official Pennsylvania website: "click here for details" which gives you a pdf file.
Then it says, "Simply follow these steps, your violation will be voided and associated fees forgiven."
It also says "no cash", so I'm guessing a check or credit card is needed.
Call them first. The pdf file gives a number of 1-877-877-5882. I don't know if that's just a Pennsylvania branch.
https://www.ezpass.csc.paturnpike.com/PovStaticPages/Contact.aspx"Please contact the E-ZPass Customer Service Center at:
1.877.PENNPASS (1.877.736.6727)
Call Center and Customer Service Walk In Hours:
Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 7:00 PM."
This website gives a different phone number. I don't know which one is better to call.
And now I see a 3rd phone number at the bottom of the 1st webpage I linked to: "Turnpike Customer Assistance Center - 800.331.3414".
https://maplewood.worldwebs.com/forums/discussion/easy-pass-violation-notice-do-i-have-to-pay-the-50"Just call them. If you don't have a ton of past violations on your car already they will waive it. If the first operator you get won't do it call back and ask another."
Remember that it's specifically in writing that the fees will be "forgiven" so try to bring up the pdf file with the customer support representative. Good luck.
You were right to try to fight the charges, and that's very friendly to be willing to use your own credit card for her.
