He had been groomed since high school to be a top international runner. He has done very well. So too has Ritz. Of course you have Ryan Hall who is probably the greatest non-naturalized American marathoner of all-time. After that there seems to be a dearth of emerging talent. Who IS on the horizon? I see a lot of 2:10 - to 2:12 guys. No one of those guys is going to break 2:07. I don't see anyone on the horizon even being able to come close. Hall, Ritz and Rupp were generational talents (if you can have 3 people at the same generation considered as "generational"). Who else is out there? Is there anyone who can run world class times? 2:12 kind of sucks compared to the 2:01s, the 2:02s, the 2:03s and the 2:04s.
