(ad agency meeting for Peloton ad)
Bob: We should do a spot where a woman gets a Peloton for Christmas and gets in great shape over the, loses weight, looks better, etc.
Nancy: No, that will imply that being fat is bad and that fat people should lose weight. I think that would offend people and we'd get a backlash.
Tom: We should have a woman who is thin from the start. Just take the whole fat thing out of the equation and don't even bring it up. That way there can't be any backlash or offense.
All: Great idea! Let's go with that. No way could that offend anyone.
TBH probably something like that. Where they really miscalculated was later in the convo.
Bob: OK, she should be super-excited about getting this peloton. It's a really pricey, thoughtful gift that we can show her gushing about as far as helping her work out more with everything else going on in her life.
Nancy: No, that will imply that fitness is super-exciting for people everywhere. That's not relatable. She should be intimidated because fitness is scary for a lot of people.
Tom: OK, but let's have her talk about how convenient and connective Peloton is. She can talk about how she can fit in her workouts around her job and the kids.
Bob: But then are we saying being a homemaker isn't enough? Or that she needs a high-powered job, or anyone does to own a Peloton.
Tom: Good point, let's just leave why she wants a Peloton out of it, and why she got one. So she's intimidated by fitness, but let's show how great a part of her routine it becomes over the following year.
Nancy: We have to show her on social though. Social is everything. We should show her letting her husband know how great a gift it really was!
Tom: Absolutely why doesn't she put it all together to show him a year later like a social diary.
Bob: Great idea, Tom. We can show how she's no longer scared of fitness and how it changed her life.
Tom: Just make sure not to explain why because again we don't want people to think that Peloton is only for one sort of person who can't do SoulCycle for whatever. It's for everyone. Any detail we add just lowers our customer base.
Nancy: Exactly.
