Am I being trolled?
No you're just being dense.

Fair enough, but in the context of an aspirational commercial, that nitpick is kinda stupid. Also it's never explained in the ad "I never work out!""Maybe I finally don't have to watch everything I eat now" etc etc.

Yes, but doing something as low-stakes as participating in a non-competitive solo workout in your home should not evoke the same feelings as what I could imagine the vibe of an influencer narrating their first half marathon or Spartan race. That is how she appears.
And on your money point again: "fair enough, but in the context of an aspirational commercial, that nitpick is kinda stupid." Something appears wrong with this lady, which is never explained and you're just throwing out ideas. You are inferring correctly that she likely suffers "from anxiety, depression, or low self worth." How about the much more reasonable premise of targeting their wealthy clientele who want to feel part of a community and lose some weight, or be able to work out from the comfort of their home while they balance life? Plenty of valid reasons to buy a Peloton, and plenty of normal people do. None of them explored in this ad.
Or you could go after the extremely large demographic of skinny women who ask for fitness equipment from their husbands at the holidays, suffer from anxiety, depression or low self-worth, and want to painstakingly document for their husband how great their gift of a Peleton was to feel validated.
- It's odd that someone wants to share a journey with their spouse?
In that way, 100% yes. The bike's in their living room. "Honey I'm on the Peloton!" At dinner: "honey I did my 50th ride today and got a shoutout it was great. Thanks again, I'm loving it." Or you could do a daily vlog.
