Yeah sure but- he's provided evidence that he is "not that guy".
If I had run a sub-40 10k I would have been running a 1:28 half. He has proven no speed over distance.
Yes, earlier in the thread I acknowledged a sub-3 in a couple months is unlikely, but it's fun to watch someone "go for it," so I'll continue to encourage.
I also mentioned previously that the last I ran sub-3, I had recently run 1:22 for a HM. His 1:35 certainly doesn't bode well, and he'd be wise to follow the mostly good advice he's gotten -- slow mileage build over a longer time frame, etc. But that wouldn't be as much fun to follow!
As another point of reference for OP:
In my late 50s, I ran a 1:28 HM and sub-19 5K in the spring, sub-1:00 15K in the summer, then a somewhat disappointing 3:07 marathon in the fall.
Injuries kept my mileage very low. If I could have maintained 55 or 60 mpw, I think I would have had a legitimate shot at sub-3, even as an old man. If OP is young, cranks up the mileage for six weeks, and stays healthy, I'm believing he's got a chance. Remember, right now he can run a 4:50 mile; I could barely break 5:40 at the time.
