Hard to say who will win between Starliper and Masciarelli. Starliper likes to take the race out hard and has a decent kick (good mile speed, but she's been out-kicked by a few girls). Masciarelli enjoys going out slower and then picking it up for a huge kick. It's uncertain whether Starliper will be well-rested enough to drop Masciarelli thoroughly and whether Masciarelli will gain enough fitness to be within striking distance of Starliper. I'd have to go with Starliper though. I don't believe she's won any national titles and she definitely wants her first. She's also probably working on responding to late moves because of what happened last year with Parks in the mile. I'm going with Vanderkooi for 3rd like last year.
Although if Hart has been taking it slower this year and was actually using NXR Midwest as an opportunity to work on her kick, as stated by her coach in an Instagram post, then she would be my pick for the win. Dudek will likely be too tired after racing hard at the Euro xc championships. She'll probably contend for the win there but the girls will definitely challenge her.
