Sahlman and Goldstein dropped a little
but Appleford, Young, and McDonnells all seemed to be gaining well
Very impressive, especially given the conditions
which conditions are we considering exactly? it was 46 degrees at start... perfect conditions
great running by Newbury, they should be able to podium if not take it all at NXN
I don’t follow HS XC much. Which teams are contenders besides Newbury?
Is that a team time record?

people on this board have talked about how CA (particularly SoCal) runners tend not to do as well at NXN because they're not used to the cold
Most of their races have probably been in 70+ degree weather
Was the course muddy at all?

Great Oak and Loudoun Valley are the main two, Milesplit has Newbury Park between them (Great Oak 1st, Newbury Park 2nd, Loudoun Valley 3rd)
Corner Canyon, Dakota Ridge, CBA, F-M, and a few others are in contention as well

It looks like it. Their team time was 75:27. 2nd fastest is Great Oak at 76:10 from 2015.

Where is Lex Young? He's their 5th or 6th runner and could have possibly made a difference. Leo Young (the one who ran at the state meet) seems to be progressing well though

They only had 7 guys under 17 min for 3 miles in 2015 and since Sean has been there, they've gotten to 18 guys sub 17. Pretty good coach. He bases his training a lot off of Schumacher and Adams State (Martin).
Did you know he has a 4:02 full mile and a 3:44 1500m to his name? What are the odds he coaches a high schooler to be better than him?
No Tori Gaitan either...how sad. At least Audrey Dang has her freshman sister racing with her
he'd be somewhere around Goldstein and Appleford. He's run 15:37 at Clovis (.3 seconds behind Goldstein there) and he ran the Southern Section Prelims on November 16 (15:58.0, same exact time as McDonnell and Appleford, the Newbury Park runners seemed to be running in groups with Young and Aschbrenner only 5 seconds apart, Sahlman and Goldstein both at 15:42)
Wonder if there was a typo and Lex accidentally ran under Leo's name. Unless Leo improved a lot to suddenly be near Appleford. His league finals time was only 9 seconds behind Appleford's but Appleford and the varsity group might not have been racing (Leo ran JV and it was supposed to be his last race so he would be racing)
Newbury Park girls are 3rd based on team time across Divisions 1-4
Looks like they'll make NXN

It actually was Leo Young racing. Lex was out with an injury.

One of the freshman phenom injured already. Not that they are training too hard or anything right?

That sucks for Lex. He would probably make a huge difference at NXN. But on the bright side, that means Leo has improved a lot.

Like no freshman was never injured before? He runs 30miles week. Crap happens, they are kids. Geeez.
The coach is doing and amazing job. Best program with constant improvement.
