Many posters glamorize sub-14 5000m runners on here. A 13:59.99 5000m is roughly equal to a 10.63 100m. Do 100m sprinters, after college live like heretics until age 30 to 35 chasing a sprinting goal? It is just as foolish for 15 or 16 minute 5000m runners to chase sub-14 until age 30 to 35.
No. It's not foolish. That's a value judgement your making, applying your beliefs and values to others. Essentially you're saying that putting off work and financial opportunities, and decreasing time for other avenues and interests of life is not worth pursuing some 5k time goal.
For you it isnt, and nothing wrong with that. For other guys, if absolutely is worth it and fits in with what they want from their life.
