This one is very easy for me...
"Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse.
This entire album is magnificent, as good as it gets. Amy was the greatest artist of the 21st century and while her passing is tragic her legacy will go on forever. She combined original themes with jazz, R&B, along with a retro feel and plenty of attitude.
Well hell, Back to Black came out in 2007 so that's LAST decade!
Oh well, at least I got in my plug for Amy.
Father John Misty - I Love You Honeybear (2015)
Opening lines:
Oh, Honeybear, Honeybear, Honeybear
Mascara, blood, ash and c*m
On the Rorschach sheets where we make love
Honeybear, Honeybear, Honeybear
F*ck the world, damn straight malaise
It may be just us who feel this way
If he wasn't drunk and high he would be an LRCer:
Maybe love is just an economy based on resource scarcity
What I fail to see is what that's gotta do
With you and me
Honorable mentions go to the rest of his oeuvre:
Fear Run (2012)
Pure Comedy (2017)
God's Favorite Customer (2018)
Solstafir
"Svartir Sandar"
it's about spooky stuff in Iceland or something
it's a fantastic departure for a former black metal band into some really melodic, post-metal, catchy kind of stuff. Very new and interesting to me at the time. Their next album was also good, then they kind of trailed off and got repetitive.
Deafheaven
"Sunbather"
I really like third-wave post rock. Deafheaven added extremely harsh black metal vocals and blast beats to echo-y post-rock and it just went together fantastically. This album is their masterpiece. The next one was ok, and the latest one was good in spots, but mostly boring
Failure
"The Heart is Monster"
Definitely best comeback album. This one has their sound from 20 years ago, but the songs are new and interesting and they seem to me to pick right up where Fantastic Planet left off
If These Trees Could Talk
"The Bones of a Dying World"
Like I said, I love third wave post rock. This album has all the tropes, and every song is dialed in to them. Just turn it on and zone out for an hour.
Japandroids
"Post-Nothing" or "Celebration Rock" (they are pretty much the same)
Lots of half-deathly serious loathing and half joking about it, and the wonderful exploding fuzzy guitar sound that I just love. Lots of yelling and whining.
Torche
"Harmonicraft"
Doom Pop is the genre that Torche pretty much created and inhabits. This album is the epitome of that name. Super low tuned, CRUSHING riffs, but with super catchy little melodies and vocals. It's sometimes confusing to listen too, I want to angrily thrash and happily bounce around at the same time. It's just a very unique sound.
And
All of the Nick Cave music that happened in the last ten years
I didn’t think I would ever like rap, but Kendrick is something else.
Good Kid Maad City probably the best album in the last 10 years.
Slightly amusing that you would attempt to go off-piste with Yeezus rather than MBDTF but then would then claim Currents rather than Lonerism.
The one that jumped to mind first was Lorde - Pure Heroine

Ed Sheeran - + (plus)

Our version of events - Emelie Sande

Hozier - Hozier

Hon mention (out of date) Lily Allen - Alright, still (well I like it)

That makes sense.
By the way, the song San Lorenzo is the most magical song I’ve ever heard.

A little bit of her goes a long way. Listen to one of her songs once and your good to go for another decade. Gimmick and also unoriginal.
I'm not attempting anything I am just listing albums I like. Currents is an incredible album and Lonerism is ok. As far as psychedelic music I'd much rather just listen to a Love or Pink Floyd album rather than Lonersim. MBDTF is also one of my favorite albums I love many things Kayne, but I think the last few song in MBDTF trail off unlike Yeezus which has no weak points. My music taste is my own, simple as that.
1) MBDTF -Kanye
2) Take Care-Drake
3) Currents- Tame Impala
Yet another vote for MBDTF
MBDTF and Currents have already been discussed, so I’ll stay away from them. Take Care has a level of depth in subject matter few albums on this list can match. Some songs are melancholy and regretful, like Marvin’s Room, while others like Headlines are unapologetically proud. While other albums might have better individual songs, I don’t think any album released in the decade covers such a wide variety of subject matter while working so well.
Fontaines D.C. - Dogrel
just discovering this band, whose only album was released less than a year ago.
They sound really good. Especially the live stuff you can dig up on You Tube (Glastonbury) or KEXP sound stage.
Would be interested to hear what others think.
Enjoy!

2014's "Lost in the Dream" by The War on Drugs is the overwhelming choice for me.
This album is ok but it's way too derivative proto-Springstein to truly be considered a best of anything.
Only really of use to these guys who haven't purchased an album since the mid 80s and would site the boss, AC/DC, maybe Metallic and the likes as the "greatest" artists ever.
Just by your handle and your post you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about and have not listened to the album. “Proto-Springsteen”?!
Lost in the Dream is a great album and is distinctively 2014. It doesn’t harken to any of the bands you mentioned

I really like the song "An Ocean in Between the Waves" from that album. It's on my running playlist.

I was going to comment that this was the first good album on posted. (Trouble Will Find a Way is good, but I disqualified it because I think The National has some much stronger work....like Boxer...from 2007)
Tried think of another contender..... Radiohead - in Rainbows....also 2007
Cat Power - The Greatest ? 2006
White Stripes? stopped putting out ablubs in......2007
What happened in 2008 that ruined music?

for 2010's I'd probably go with Adele 21. Seems like it will age well.
Honestly, Adele and Beyonce were about the only artists I saw on the lists that I imagined I'd listen to in 10 years.
I was curious about Modest Mouse -We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, not something I would consider for best album but something from the decade I could see listening to in 10 years.....it was released in.....2007
I guess i got old in 2008 and stopped listening to music.

Trouble Will Find Me, by The National
Amazing sounds and progression through the whole album. The lead singer's voice is almost an instrument in itself. The lyrics are the perfect blend of non-nonsensical and storytelling.
I also think their first album of this decade (High Violet) was amazing, too.
No reference to Sleep Well Beast or I Am Easy To Find?
I have to admit I was pretty surprised to see Trouble Will Find Me in this thread. Apparently I need to catch up and listen to their latest albums. I have been stuck on TWFM since I first heard it. Was just listening to it in the car the other day.
I used to spend a lot more time finding and listening to new music. I have become middle aged and lame though. I still enjoy just about anything from David Bazan (Pedro the Lion) and Arcade Fire, both artists I’ve been listening to for nearly 20 years that seem to keep releasing good music (just like The National).
Bon Iver- Bon Iver
Bottle in In- Kurt Vile
Neon Bible- Arcade Fire
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot- Wilco
A Deeper Understanding- War on Drugs
Civilian- Wye Oak
Team Dream- Beach House
Singles- Future Islands
